ineed a new pc thats super pimped out but i dont know what to get.. what kind of specs should i go for? i want something that can handle the stress of design work and also 3d studio max... lost of hd space and all that... and really super fast.
what do you suggest?
i have a little less than a grand to spend. i just need the tower.
and dont say build your own.. unless you're going to build it for me.

refurbished Dell Dimension is a way to go if you can't build it yourself.
Conifguring your OS with a homemade box is the hardest part. If you aren't familiar with this I would look into the refurbs. Great computers for great price.

go to online quotes...it's in canadian prices...but it's pretty thorough in detailing any possible items you'd need, and determining other components that function (or don't) together.
it's a good start

i know that much.. but what specs i should choose when purchasing a computer.. thats what i need to know ... to handle the stuff i just posted.
i need a very good reliable and fast machine for heavy design work that wont run out of space on one project.

you just need a computer with tons of memory and a good video card. (never skimp on these things). you can save money by getting a comp with an amd processor instead of intell. good luck

You might browse the desktop pcs here:
http://www.tigerdirect.com/appli…I just bought a new comp through that site and will be building it this weekend.

my coworker here runs a 3.3ghz pentium. the thing blows everyone's skirt off.
make sure you get something at least that. gotta invest right

what am I building mitsu?
I bought a barebones system, got a big box at home full of everything. This is the one I bought:

Hi Shellie.
Whatever you get I recommend you get, at the very least, the following:
AMD ATHALON 3.2 Ghz (forget intel - this runs tracks over even the intel pentium 4)
512MB MEMORY
80 Gb HD (or bigger)
and for your Video card:
XFX GeForce FX 5600
256MB DDR AGP8X

for all your PC building needs... head to http://www.newegg.com
they are the best with prices and service. If you build PCs this is the place you go.

she doesnt have software for the mac, so that would be alot more, right?

Try going to your local custom computer shop. Tell him what you need, they are usually really good at keeping the cost down and insuring their work.

local custom computer shop my ass...
they will rape you on prices.

I'll back that up.
It's the same thing as saying, "Buy one at BestBuy."

Depends on where you go I suppose. We just built two 3d workstations each about 2600.00.
3 ghrz Pentium 4 chips
ATI Gire GL video cards
4x DVD +R /-R burners
(2) 36g Ultra SCSI drives
1 gig DDR RAM
internal DV shuttle deck.. and nice quiet boxes.

theres a reason why i didnt say build me a mac.. i cant afford what i can get on a PC. noting sucks more than a watered down mac. im sure you call can agree.. and i dont have 3 grand to spend... so no more of that.
