I'm trying to talk myself into buying an Ipod, please tell me how lame I would be if I did not do so.

Don't bother.

with an itrip, you can use it anywhere there's a stereo. in your car, at work, home, etc.

if you're lame without it, you probably wont be much better with it.

Don't bother with an ipod, but do bother with this fine product from Creative:
http://us.creative.com/products/…For the same price as a 10GB ipod, you get a 30GB player.

If you don't you'll be blinded by FlatWallet™ Syndrome and end up going on a consumer binge, returning home with a $300 Foot Massage Kit instead.
Just buy the goddamn Ipod.

I'm pretty lame without it anyway.
Good Idea Rasko, I think instead I'll buy an Ipod and give it to some foreign charity.

don't listen to these "sensible" people with their "practical" reasoning. join us and get an iPod.
it turned out to be a better investment than i thought. you can use it to store all your clients' info, it has a calendar with reminders, it's an alarm clock, there's games (music quiz) is my favorite, you can use it as a hard drive. I have the 40gb one and i store all my 300+cd music collection and transfer files from work to home. some people use it to boot an OS with their computer for emergencies

just rewatched matrix reloaded, so it must be said:
Because you didn't come here to make a choice, you've already made it. You're here to try to understand why you made it.

Concurrently, I think I'm gonna get it anyway, ergo...your momma

I was one of the people who said that I would never, ever use one. I finally decided to just suck it up and buy one (I've got a 40), and it's one of the better decisions I've ever made. I don't know if you're on a PC or a Mac, but at least if you're on Mac, it couldn't be easier to use.
However, only buy one if you know you'll use it. I walk 25 minutes to classes every day, and I don't have a CD player in my car, so the main times I listen are going to class and driving somewhere. If you can think of times when it would be convenient for you to use it, I highly suggest buying it. If you like listening to the radio in your car, never walk anywhere, and are always around a computer that you could listen to music on, then you might want to reconsider the investment.
All logic aside: Buy an iPod!!

That's just it, I have a CD player in the car and in the house and in my laptop. I don't really go outside anymore (other than walking to the car) so I'd never use it.

Without consumerism, wouldn't most designers/illustrators be out of a job? hmmm?
Anyway, I've been eating up a lot of gigs at work with my mp3s and I don't want it to get out of control, so I think the IPod would remedy that situation, plus that FM transmitter rocks tha house.

Your logic is good.
My path too and from work involves an 8-10 minute walk to the subway, avg. 15-20 minutes on the subway, 5 minute walk to the office once downtown. Repeat in reverse order at the end of the day.
Always out to lunch, sometimes listen to my portable cd player, and sometimes take it along in the mornings.I would benefit from one, and one of the main reasons to get one would be to avoid carrying around purchased CD's and risk scratching them.
Also, I usually carry a paperback book, small bound journal for song lyrics, an umbrella, sometimes an 8x10 sketchbook, and a magazine or two in my bag.
An ipod would be a little lighter and less cumbersome than a cd player. For someone always in a car and not walking much, I don't think you'd get your money's worth.
