what? I'm confused. can you give us more detail about the project and more detail of what they promised and what you have in contract form?
- p1xelfrog0
bummer! what's the company?
I just got back from Maui on my honeymoon, and I found out that I could never live in that state, very strange and isolated.
:P

I was hired to head up the creative for a dating site. nothing else...just a dating site. but since i've been here...i've just been made to work on horrible sites that i would never show you guys...that were point system...fill out offers...to win shit you don't even want. see...i was working for match.com in dallas...and was brought here for my expertise in the field...but once i got here...he kinda just changed his mind...and thought...well...i don't think i want to do that anymore...i don't think it'll make any money. but he just kept throwing us a bone...letting us think that we were going to do it...but now...we've been given final notice that he's going to cut us loose. and the other thing is...companies in hawaiii are shady...like mom and pop type shops...so the contract i have...is just a generic contract...i have my offer letter...and a stack of emails...stating that i'm being brought here to make a dating site. shotgun anyone?

i hope you didn't burn your bridges with match... if so, get a job with nerve or lavalife or something.
- raydawg880
i didn't burn my bridges...but think they've hired someone since i left. i'd love to work for nerve or lavalife...that would be awesome...but neither are hiring...i've sent them both my stuff anyway though.

even if you get canned start your own company up?
buy a tent, surfboard and live on the beach...your in PARADISE!
think of getting canned as a blessing to go and travel around one of the most beatiful places on earth.....your young and free enjoy it!

lived in the big island for 2 years and loved every single day.
if you feel like you're being screwed just leave, or fist fight your boss or just surf the web a lot and collect pay checks.

yeah, i've heard hawaii is a nice place to visit for a week and by the end you're ready to go home. not so sure i could deal with the secludedness of it.
sorry to hear about your situation... although... isn't that 2a competitor, who is also from Dallas relocated to hawaii? i can't remember their names, but i'm sure they're doing pretty well now.
- mitsu0
whoswe is who i was thinking of btw.
- raydawg880
yeah...i know the who'swe guy...they're still thinking about moving out here...don't think they've made the plunge yet.

man i'm with you, I was hired to be an interactive designer at a university and all they did was make me learn blackboard (wtf?) I sold my life to and moved to NYC, which is definitly cool, but the job really really sux.
If you take them to court let me know, best of luck to you.

What does your f#@*ed up situation have to do with Hawaii. Hawaii is the BEST State to live in. Cultural diversity, tropical weather all year long, surf, water out of the tap you can drink, year round golf, beautiful women and the list goes on! What state offers more than Hawaii?
- p1xelfrog0
Let's see:
California
Colorado
Arizona
Oregon
Wyoming
New Mexico
Utah
Idaho
Alaska
Washington
MontanaI loved Maui, and it was beautiful, but overall I would say Hawaii is overrated. Too isolated, too much of the islands are inaccessable, too small, too touristy. To go to another island you have to fly or take a long ass boat ride.
I can't help but feel almost clausterphobic about that state.
oh well each to his own.
:P

hawaii is beautiful
but i guess from this story, hawaiian employers suckasslose the underwear and hang loose dude

my friend had same thing in -sing-singapur...but he escaped!

damn ray, sorry to hear things aren't working out so well. Depending on how much you have in wirintg you may be able to take the case somewhere with a decent lawyer, but it may be a long shot.
Time to start hitting the big dogs for work.
Good luck!

I'm sorry things aren't working out. I'm still looking for a job here in Honolulu Hawaii myself. Contracting out, but still looking. I wouldn't look forward to your situation, no, the bad experience on the job is obviously tainting your experience here, and helping reinforce other peoples preconception of what it is actually like here. Obviously you had the courage to move and try it out, and I respect that. Aside from a few of you who are actually living here, loving it and not having a bad work day, all this Hawaii bashing is just all negative projection. I had a shitty job right in San Francsico proper, with a coke snortin' russian mafia dude as a boss, but I for sure wasn't bashing California. You need legal advice. What's the company again? Just want to steer clear...
- whiteSneaks0
it is shitty this guy fed you a line but I don't think he is liable from a legal point of view. as a business owner he can change his plans and lay off employees if he likes. the only hope you would have is if his actions were considered fraudulent.
in the mean time try to enjoy the islands.
