I dl'd a copy from a guy at the label and it sounds like classic strokes. Nothing really new. SOme good melodies hiding under rotten production and awful vocals.

Someone needs to shove that band back into the closet and blow torch the lock shut. Untalented, pointless dribble. (while they are at it, throw those 2 annoying candy stripers in there with them, i.e. the white stripes)

I just picked up the album by The Stills, heard it at Virgin the other day and it was pretty cool.
But the Strokes, they get credit, yeah, but more for how much opportunity they gave to so many other better bands who don't get shoved at everyone, like The Libertines, The Datsuns, Jet, etc.
Don't know if The Strokes had much to with the rise of the White Stripes-I don't think they did at all but I've seen the contrary written a few times.

I honestly don't understand the venomous response this band gets. I mean, it's just simple pop music. How can they be doing anything wrong by creating and releasing simple pop music?

They're not doing anything wrong...
People just get worked up because of the hype given to the band by the media.
If the media just let them be a band and not "saviors of rock and roll" or "the future of rock and roll" then people wouldn't put them down and all that.
That's why I mention so many other bands that have none of that hype, and because of it their music speaks for itself on it's own.
Have you listened to the Datsuns? One of the best of that crop. Same thing with The Libertines. Great bands for what the do.

i dont rely on media hype or criticism to dictate what i like either. if it rocks and makes me want to shake my ass, then i consider that some good music. they are not the best musicians or have complex and involved riffs, but they give it their all and have fun doing it. "automatic stop" is crazy nice. the tron video is very pretty too.

I'm sorry, but the strokes rock. Loved their first album. I don't think there's been an album where i've liked so many songs (Maybe Everclear - So Much for the Afterglow and the Foo's).
Someday was frikkin awesome. Such happy, simple tunes.Hopefully, Room on Fire is just as good.

omg like one time i saw the thermals in bellingham and then like my sister invited them over to like spend the night cuz she like knows ben bartnett and like they totally slept on her couches and played super nintendo.
they didn't say muchand then i heard their album and i was like 'these guys are all right'
and then ben left the band and re-started Kind of Like Spitting and like that's my sister's favorite band so she's like totally stoked
and the new strokes album is like their old one
which is cool
its easy listening listless foot-tappin' good stuff.

White Stripes suck total dick live. They're appalling (live..).
If you like it good for you... bla bla bla once again.
What the hell is going on here. What an influx of negativity we seem to have had here.
