I seriously don't get this "much of the same" shit people are saying. If bands released totally diff second albums they'd loose their original fans wouldn't they?
If simple, happy catchy tunes is your definition of "same" then bah!
I honestly think Room on Fire is quite different from Is This It. Shoot me if you think otherwise.

I have this album, it's marginally better than the first one. "Reptilia" has some excellent interplay between guitars, theres some great melodies. Thank christ there's no self indulgent guitar shite on there and the songs are the length that singles are supposed to be (ie 3 minutes).
I imagine the hype does have the effect of making people dislike them, regardless of what the songs actually sound like (doesn't help that they're rich kids either, but it doesn't seem to bother anyone when it comes to Radiohead). It's easy to blather on about how they sound like Blondie, Television etc. So many current bands sound like other bands it's a worthless statement. There are no covers on this record and the tunes are almost uniformly excellent.
I bought it along with an Undertones album and they go well together. But then most of you here must hate The Undertones as well. If you don't like "Here Comes The Summer" or "Teenage Kicks" then there's something wrong with you.
