Von Dutch is for poseurs. and to all you pinheads that wear trucker hats (askew or not) you all can gobble a dick.

fuck Grind King too. those punks wrote their name in our mural for one of their ads about 10 years ago in Venice. If they'd been caught slippin they would have been housed right on the spot and ganked for their equipment.

My point isnt just "oh everyones wearing it so its totally uncool".
My point is when someone creates a brand and exploits the shit out of it to the point that nordstroms is carrying it. Stussy... Mossimo... etc come to mind. Additionally Von Dutch isnt Von Dutch. It is a couple of guys who want to make money solely. Good for them in the business world, but bad for them in the art car culture world that Von Dutch was a part of.
Hey I am all for "I dont care whos wearing it - I like it". But 30 bucks for 2 dollar "foamie" trucker cap is bullshit. Thats exploitation.
On a side note its interesting how Stussy has reclaimed itself and is sort of back to underground. Whereas Mossimo attempted to go elite by making suits and now they are a trach brand in Target.

What they've turned it into is a disgrace to his name, I'd be turning in my grave if I was him. Damn shame.

what is really eerie about this thread is that I went to dinner with my girl and her folks last night...I got bored so I listened to the people at the table next to me who were talking about this same thing. Only thing is, one of the guys was saying that he is the rightful owner of the licensing for Von Dutch. He said that the daughters sold the rights to a Japanese firm illegally who then sold them to some guy named Tony who is now producing all the clothes. The guy sitting behind me said he is planning on getting the licensing back.
I really dislike VonDutch because of all the tools who wear those trucker hats. But I was fighting the urge to turn around give the guy my card.

von dutch hats are made pretty nicely. not to be a poser, but the quality is preyyy nice, and some of those hats are made from the same felt-ish material as tennis balls.

The only people I see wearing them are 16 year old blonde girls - cocked to the side.

but the person starting the thread is someone who starts a fight... on a thread... must have a lot of free periods at college.

The prob isn't hats or tshirts. It's dorks wearing logos that they know nothing about. (I learned about the So Cal car culture 'cause I dated a hot-rodder for 2 years a long while back)
I hate that someone bought the name of an innovating beatnik who truly shunned pop culture. That's what's sick about it. Marketing isn't bad-marketing someone's life as "image" is.
Before you buy, learn. Von Dutch the man is quite interesting as is his work. The 60's So Cal car culture he was a part of birthed a lot of cool stuff. Von Dutch clothing has nothing to do with that.

The trucker caps are at a ridiculous price over here in Montreal, around 65$. I'm not paying over 45$ for a hat.
