"...the XP security is on a much better level now. Also I use Norton AV Pro with automatic updates and never ever had a virus on my computer. " - Boz
Then why are you still using Norton? When I'm on a mac - I use...mmm, let me think... mmmm, NOTHING! I use it to make things, not to prove how computer literate I am... and make nothing.
Use it as a tool, not being a tool yourself is my motto

apples are so expensive these days...$$$ for a kilogram..yikes

sweetasbro,
Unfortunately, 90%, oops 95% of the world computing is conducted on PCs. It's a natural thing that we have viruses. Btw, you have Anti-virus software on Macs too. Apple sells those in their store as well. Even though, we have viruses, I never got one, because the protection apps are much better now and we don't have to think about anything, they do the job for us.
I don't want this to turn to Apple VS PC dicussion. I'm truly admire Panther OSX and the Macs. I was just stating that the price still kills the switch. I might get a G4 iMac 17" but to transfer everything to top of the line Apple is just way too expensive.

I see your point, but I'm assuming you are a designer, then designer are different kinds of people, not white-collar lemmings (most of the 90% PCs are used in corporations as dumb terminals), we appreciate good designs, we want good designs - I don't use macs because they are "cool" - they are what most things in this world should be - good quality, the productivity, the thoughtfulness...
Anyway, 90% of ALL products in this world are a waste of space - only 10% or less are really what we NEED.
pls consider...

To finish, I would like to show those 2 posters above the prices with the same configurations only in this case PC has all the better components.
This is the original configuration I posted (btw, I'm getting this one because it runs like hell (WD Raptors @ 10k rule) and CRTs are still better then LCDs):
And here are exactly the same configurations as in Apple ones, with LCDs and the same capacity drives:
The whole point is that I'm unwilling to pay 2 grand more just for the looks and the operating system. There's no way that anyone can say that PC doesn't have better technology and prices, and that's what makes buying an Apple a luxury and not neccessity, though iMac G4 is still acceptable :) for $1600.

what about G5?, isnt that the first 64bit and the 2.2gig G5 is the fastest desktop ever...
sounds better than pcs to me... or is there a pentium 78 thats better or something?

BO-OZ! BO-OZ!
Boz is a winner in my books.
Not that I really care about this whole topic. I like macs, I like pcs, I am a nerd, So are you, pcs are cheaper. That's it.
Big hug!
*squeeze!*
It's over.

I'm with radiosilent.
I ain't a fuckin tech guy I just need a machine that will do what I need it to do so I can make money.
SERIOUSLY, I've spent WAY more time fixing and reinstalling and cleaning my PC over the life of my studio than I have on my MACs. I have 2 PCs and 5 MACS running in here. and the PCs are only for playing mp3s and bug testing webpages. go figure I've spent HOURS literally all nighters reinstalling the fuckin win2000 bs operating system... or replacing something like a cooling fan (somehting I've never had to do on even the oldest of MACS in here) which fried a hard drive.
and hey you could say that I'm an idiot and don't know anything about computers to which I would say you're right, but I don't want to know, I want to work.

OI!!
I said this is over.
Now everyone shut it.

why do the people in Apple ads look like such fucking HOSERS?
http://www.apple.com/macosx/videā¦
I mean really... fucking HOSERS
- ********0
I mean for shit's sake, who chooses these particular HOSERS to represent Apple. Must be some asshole at Chiat Day getting all his C rated actor HOSER buddies into these demos. Even the professionals being interviewed look like HOSERS.

lilbabyleg,
you are not an idiot :) and you are totally right, basically this is not a discussion about PC vs Mac but rather the actual reasoning behind switching. I would lie if I said that I hate Macs and that I really don't want one, but unfortunately we leave in a material world and business needs to rely on ROI. You see if I didn't know anything about computers I would have bought Mac a long time ago, but that's not the case. I can tell you in total honesty that I haven't reinstalled my XP system in ages and I never had a break done except for HDD failure or something similar. And that takes us to the money issue. If I can save 2-3 grand on every computer I buy I have to go with PCs. PCs and Macs are pretty much the same speed now, pretty stable and they run the same software which means the same tools for the job.

and i love the way they make it look like BT and the creator of Akias just 'popped' by the apple store like its a real cool place to hang out. The guys enthusiasm erks me, hes a fucked chump with his 'i'm so alternative' dreadlocks. fucker
- sexypixel0
that felt good
- unknown0
hahaha, yeah they do look a bit funny but hey it's all marketing. People in creative industry basically look like that, relaxed and sometimes very plain (no suits and ties :), and that's their target audience.
- sexypixel0
thats what erks me, the marketing is too shallow that way, "hey, lets find a cool guy with dreads so the kids wil relate to us and really think were hip'
know what i mean
- unknown0
yep, but it did the job for me. Well actually not the scenery around but the actual product (Panther) :)
- ********0
people in the creative industry look like these HOSERS? yeah that guy with the dreads looks like some schmuck who graduated with a degree in theater and hangs out on Montana st in Brentwood. a fucking HOSER if I ever saw one.
