Ok, after seeing the new video about Panther I'm definitely switching my primary computer to Apple (G5) and Panther. I still love PCs for all the techy stuff (programming and 3d) but man, living everyday life with Panther is just simply so much easier. I'm now officially Mac/PC boy and not PC/Mac boy. The only problem: getting money for software on both platforms, yikes!!!

exactly, that's a big problem. I would switch too, but $$ talks and shit walks. ;)

It just fooking sucks to spend $1800 for both version of Studio MX 2004, and that's just a start. DAMN IT!

cheap bastards, always complaining about $. do you buy good shoes, shirts, cars, food, etc? or always go with the cheapest? man, the 'mac are 4 times more expensive than PC's' argument is soooooooo stupid....

mitee_, wtf are you talking about, of course Macs are way too expensive, but that's not the point. I've come to realize that for everyday life, common apps and Photoshop and some video Macs are worth it, but PCs will always be much cheaper. The point here is not the actual price of the Macs it's the fact that I have to not only spend like at least $2500 for a decent G5, but I need to give twice that for all the software that I need on Mac like I have on my PC. Unfortunately Mac IS NOT PERFECT and there are soooo many things on PC that are simply better which means if you want to have the best things and the most efficient things to work on, you need not only to buy hardware, but spend a shit load of money for software as well.

i want to switch too...
but switching to apple requires 4 times the amount of money to in the end.

agreed Burty. I just went to the apple store. Even with student discounts (trying to pass as student :) ). To switch with only hardware it will take between 6-8 grand. Ok I'm talking about getting a dual G5 and 15" PowerBook. Plus around 3-4 grand for software. OUCH!!! I'm just hesitant to spend that much money. I mean for christ sake it's a new car (and a good one at that).

and the best thing is when all your peripherals need to run through classic cause the developers dont have drivers that can keep up. unless you want to buy new compatible equipment

That's what you get for using PC's in the first place. Switchers got to pay for their sins. I've been using a mac for 10 years exclusively and each upgrade is fairly easy. I buy a machine, sell it for $200 less a year later (try that on a Dell) and then buy the latest so in reality each year my computer only cost me roughly around $200.00 bucks. although I kept my dual 450 which is 5 years old and still rocks!! four years ago you might of had a pentium 1 ... try running the latest version of WinXP on that and see how it feels. I got a 5 year old machine that runs Panther like I bought it yesterday.

?
ok... that was a wasite of words

wasn't a total waste of words...
i totally agree in some ways...
i miss my mac. i had a dual 1.4 and sold it slightly after i got it because the main app i work in (flash mx) wouldn't work reliably. now i kinda wish i had it just because it would have been nice to have features panther provides that jaguar didn't (font management, user switching, etc...)..more power to ya for switching.. i wish i could do the same now again.. instead of dwelling on the fact that i didn't a couple weeks back.

Radiosilent, jeez open your eyes... I've got a four year old machine running XP pro..... ummm, p1 4 years ago eh. That'd been old too. I gotta say I work on macs & pcs equally at work and primarily pc at home. Cost, efficiency, productivity, functionality, customization, almost every aspect is better unless you like playing idiot with a big wallet because you think some operating system is designed for 'creatives'..... bleah one eh em rants suck, but I had too. I could ramble for hours....meh.... and theres nothing better than saying you've built your own workstation go build yourself a mac...

I don't know much about PC's but everytime I've tried to research building one or buying one to match our Mac's they have always been around the same price, give or take a few hundred.
We use mac's but we need a PC for customer support and 3D. If anybody knows a good place to get a powerful but cheap pc let me know.
But I'll always be a Mac fan.
