i'm not referring to any particular site, just an overall feeling i'm getting from the now.
stuff like fashion, music, etc in addition to graphic design.
for starters this trend in design for stencils. though it pisses me off because i've been stenciling way before corporate america discovered it was cool and i hate to see it turned into a corporate tool.
i just felt like the last part of the nineties was awkward.
could just be me, though...

Lack of talent is the new black

perhaps your feelings of the now have something to do with your age and what's going on in your life.
btw: stenciling comes and goes. It's not really new. Madison Ave picks things up when they're widely accepted as fashionable in the target demographic's now.

yeah, that also occurred to me. i'm much more confident in my own skills than i was then.

im really looking forward to our work now that we are all comfortable with the 2000's style and dont gank shit from past eras
- picturepack0
I know, right?
but like-- who's stuff isn't derivitive right now? Who defines the 2000's era for you without reminding you much of past styles?
- erikjonsson0
plaid has been the new paisley for a while :P
thanks to the german minimalistic influence on recent design

Well, if you cant put a label on a certain visual expression, its a sign you got a pretty good thing going, right?
The pixelstyle, 45 degrees, digital abstract etc only became a named style after being chewed, gnawed and finally devoured by a large mob of graphic cannibals. You can rely heavily on the past and still be pretty original and unique. Still I would hesitate to name '03 the year of the new and clicheless - everytime we see someting completely different, its immediately copy and killed by cloners everywhere ... Scarabin - gimme a link to something w/ a truely unique artictic identity and I'll rip it off

well, I'll be the brave one and mention some sites.
For me, these 5 have maintained an original style since they were constructed, and have held onto a fresh look through the 00's without being overtly-derivitive. They have important, inventive ideas that require readable, relevant packaging.
