Games should just be more sophisticated. It's a fact the human brain learns more quickly and profoundly when at play.

Belic games are lame.
specially those ones you get to go to irak.Leave them alone already..

remember, it was the kid that said the emperor had no clothes.
old games, without the nostalgia, ain't all that.

" Games should just be more sophisticated. It's a fact the human brain learns more quickly and profoundly when at play. "
then why are the simpler games the most enjoyable?

I thought their comments were pretty astute and funny.
I mean, if we we had to use a bunch of old 78's on a record player from 1959 and had to use a 4 track tape in a car. I expect we'd say they sounded pretty bad and was not to our tastes. Of course these kids have no reference point. These games aren't their history their ours.Imagine watching a television set form 1952 with progrmmes from 1952. How long would you watch and be interested in it compared to someone who can actually remember it.
You're all turning into nostalgic old gits. we don't own video games.

i think that 99% of the games these days are NOT funny to play like donkey kong or tetris is. only nintendo produces games that are fun to play. explosions and extreme 3d are shite.

actually Blo, some of us do embrace historic/nostalgic media. I, for one, am a huge fan of Betty Boop, and moreover, the Fleischer bros.
...and what's wrong with being a nostalgic old git. Those experiences define a great bit of who we are. Experiences similarly aged people can share and appreciate.
I'm willing to bet that if the experiment had been more casual, and less of and "under the spotlight" affair, the kids may have had different reactions. As I read the article, I found there comments somewhat contrived for show.

it all depends on what you like doing to deem something fun.
I grew up in the Atari age and have followed gaming fairly closely.
I'm 29 and I still play games but I'm not ashamed of it and I don't call it sick.Since multiplayer across the net has come along games take on a new role and a new challenge but even pong was multiplayer and to play against your best freind and whoop his ass was a great thing.
Games are good in my view

so, what are the games who are fun and not just graphical highlights?
maybe i was a little harsh before

Depends on how you see fun
Fun as in laughing as you play:
Fun because its a challenge? For laughing fun I quite enjoyed Simpson Road rage with some friends playing too on the PS2
Challenging games for me was Half Life mod Day of Defeat on the PC and online or Battlefield 1942 but I must say Halo on the Xbox and PC is pretty good for me at the moment

i really got immersed in games as a kid, i guess because i had quite an imagination, which is something that will take you pretty far with games of this graphical caliber... sort of a step up from those 'choose your own adventure' books.
a few of my favs from the NES:
zelda
castlevania I,II,III
mike tysons punch out
kung fu
ninja gaidenand the sega master system:
space harrier
hang on
miracle warriors
shinobi
spy vs. spy
phantasy star

anyone remember Flashback on the Megadrive and SNES?
The animation of the characters was amazing

no class in video games these days....the nintendo and genesis classics were the crowning achievement or perfect balance of old school and new school....they should've continued along that road but as with every other "balanced" thing in the American marketplace, we have to go and change it up to suit the needs of the more and more medicated masses.....we get gassed with the fear steroid on a daily and the kids get to play "White Trash Las Vegas Karate Gun Battle AutoTheft VIIII" to dull their imaginations even more.

I think we've become spoilt when it comes to games. There are so many games to cater for everyone.
Space invaders has come along way and yet many still scream for the original idea but expecting real world graphics

I have 2 atari 2600's a 7800, a philips videopac and several handheld games and I tell you I play none of them - they ARE shit, but then again I never play playstation either, I bought the first one to play T hawk, hjad a couple of other games, played it for a couple of days and now it gathers dust I dont even know where. Any game play is done using mame playing the original roms from my arcade days (which were many) playing all the TRUE classics like crimefighters, new zealand story, bubble bobble, monster land and the like... these days video games may be super real but they're also super boring... I live in the 'real' world why do I want to play it? I want to be shooting jellyfish and eating magic mushrooms and collecting gold coins and shit.. You just need to look at the art behind the classic japanese video games and realise that was The Golden Age!
- pascii0
fun becaues its a great idea! my last game was http://www.vibribbon.com/vibflas… and it was a trip!

what makes me sick is that game producers force game developers to punch out remakes of classics and they have to be done in 3D... they think that realism somehow makes every game better...
i think we are approaching our 3rd or 4th try with a castlevania remake and it still seems to be a dissapointment... i wonder if they'll ever catch on...
