Good points. You talking about finding them on the streets? In my equivelant, East Saint, I've heard many stories about dogs tied to trees and left to die with no food.

no.. just go to the pound in the hood. trust me theyre sweet. plenty of puppies. especially during the yearly puppy season. in the hood nobody fixes their goddamn dogs so puppies get thrown to the pound b the boxloads.
i was looking for a kitten in the off season in santa monica (nice neighborhood) and i couldnt find one that wasnt being bid on by like 10 people or more. not even full grown cats...
i went to compton.. and they were like trying to offer me 2 for 1 deals because they cant get rid of them fast enough.
think about it. it'll be the best rescue youve ever done.
i would stay away from previously owned dogs myself especially if i had kids. but there's plenty of puppies i promise you. you just will have to drive a little. call the city pounds in like 30 mile radius of where you live in the bad neighbohoods... k? ok...

Thanks, awesome advice Shellie. Ill look into that. I thought it was hard to find puppies. The older dogs are probably the most screwed.
So when is puppy season?

I got my dog from an animal shelter. The sweetest dog I ever came across with. There must be more than one animal shelter in your neighbourhood.
have a look:

My wife and I have had 3 pure breeds (two Westhighland White Terriers, and a Shih-Tzu), and one mutt that had been abondoned on, or near the interstate. We love all of our dogs, of course, but the mutt is by far the healthiest, the most loyal, and the smartest. I can take him anywhere without a leash/lead and he'll stay right by my side.

I have OCD, hate dog hair. Anyone know some dogs that do not shed much (you have to cut their hair) and aren't tiny but not the ugliest things on earth (those big shaggy dogs no offense if you own one)

on a note related to this thread, we found a newborn kitty in our office parking lot this morning. Still had it's ambilical cord (sp?) attached.
We took it to the vet and one of the owners is going to adopt the little thing.
some good news to combat the muzzle and duct tape news story in this thread.

Good point, Ive heard that. Ive also heard from the same person that mixed breed dogs and smarter and healthier and that alot of purebreds arent as smart because they are inbred.

its a crossing of a collie and a dobermann.
very relaxed dog with a an attitude, wont go outside when it rains. Never begs and sit down next to you very closely when you dont feel so happy.I know I will never find another dog like that again.

CX.. if your kids arent too young.. it might be a good experience to take them with you to the animal shelter and teach them all about what it is to be a responsible owner and also the joy of helping an animal in need. adoption is great. i dont remember when puppy season is.. but theres a certain time of year after the dogs were all in heat then get knocked up.. and have babies that most dogs who dont have homes end up having litters on the street.. or irresponsible families didnt fix their bitch and they dont want puppies so they leave them out by the trash.
getting a specific kind of dog is fun and all. i had a boxer as a kid.. but theres nothing like looking into the eyes of some floppy liitle mixed breed puppy who just wants to love yoooooou!

try to rescue or shelter. there are rescue centers for most breeds, we have a yellow lab via rescue.
grafiske, some people who can't handle hair can handle greyhounds there are rescue centers all over for them. they are super mellow. they just need love... don't we all?
