I want to get a english bulldog, boxer or german shepard. Where is a good place to go. I wouldn't get one from Pass Pets but I just looked at them. Their prices are insane anyway. $950 for a boxer, etc. Cheapest dog is a $300 beagle. PS - All the breeder sites really suck and most are on geocities.

I went throught the AKC site today. Heres a list of dogs I dig most:
Akita
Alaskan Malamute
American Stratfordshire terrier
Australian Shepherd
Beagle
Boston Terrier
Boxer
Bulldog
Doberman
English Foxhound
German Shepherd Dog
German Shorthaired Pointer
Kuvasz
Norwegian Elkhound
Pharaoh Hound
Pug
Rhodesian Ridgeback
Rottweiler
Shiba Inu
Siberian Husky
Staffordshire Bull Terrier

Go to an animal shelter and save a dog's life.

If your not conserned about getting one that AKC regestered, you could always try the newspaper or the pound. There are plenty of mixed pups who would love a home. That list of dogs is quite cool. My parents have an australian sheperd right now. there awesome if you have the room for them to run. if this dog is going to be inside, id go for a pug. i had one as a kid and they don't require much. Bull dogs rock too.

Good point. I went to a shelter near my house and all the dogs seemed insane. I have small kids so if I want a tough dog I think your supposed to get them as a puppy and raise them with the kids.
Im really trying to hear a bulldog or boxer.

i am getting a dog too, most likely a Rhodesian Ridgeback...went and visted a breeder, who had 4 adults and 4 puppies on the premises...great dogs, very friendly and loyal...i went through the same problems with finding a breeder, but stick with the shitty geocities pages...email them, ask about upcoming breeds, go meet the parents...at-house breeders are the best, because the puppies get the most contact with each other and get used to being around humans...which means its not as crazy-chewin-tearin-up your house, compared to a puppy who has to sit in a cage....

I grew up with a bull terrier as a kid. she was the nicest dog you could ever ask for. very loyal and very friendly. a great family member. its all about discipline and some modest training.

You can search by breed here:

and if youve got kids the ridgebacks are supposed to be great protectors of a family...the husband of the breeder we met had a lot of stories about them fuckin' up intruders, he was an ex-K9 cop...but he said the best thing about them is that they recognize when a stranger comes in and you welcome them...if they see you accept the guest, they accept them and guard them as well....

Japanese Akitas are awesome too. Police dogs also and considered a national treasure.
Guard dog is one of the main quailities Im looking for.
The descr of boxers said they are fearless.

German Shepherds are supposed to be great companion dogs and defenders of the family. Im sure they are really smart too.

they are awesome. smart, loyal, loving and active.
people freak when i take mine out cause the whole cop dog thing..
but he never bit anyone or thing. his whole world revolves around his ball.

If your looking for an impressive dog, I use to have an Anatolian Sheepdog. He would run up and knock down all 6'3" of me. Great animal. I think they just became AKC a few years ago.

More, more! Anyone else been to a pound and noticed that many of the dogs seem nuts? There were only 2 I wasnt scared of and would trust around my kids. I really dug this one:

Its supposed to be a husky lab mix. I took it for a walk and it was dragging me around. Really strong.

i wanna german shepard.

I would definatlely get a pound dog if I were you. Mixed breeds have less health problems and most dogs are good dogs with training. Also as far as the dogs seeming crazy at the pound; They are locked in cages and with 30other dogs all of different temperments as people poke and stare all day Im pretty sure and seem nuts too. Take the dogs for a quick walk away from the others and see how it responds once its able to chill.

Good advice Abba. Most pounds or shelters will let you take the dog out for a walk.

i got all my pets from the hood. go to the pound. theres an insane abunance of puppies that will be put to death if someone doesnt take them. usually with the pound (at least in california) they also give them all the shots and make sure theyre healthy before hteyre released.
go to the equvilant of compton in your area. you'll have plenty of puppies and teenagers to choose from.
to buy from anywhere else should be a crime.
