Anyone see a sneak peak at the new napster 2.0 and their site yet?
Any word on what Shawn Fanning is up to since his departure?
- jevad0
THe flash animations on their new site are class - I guess it's gonna be a subscription service when it opens again...Shawn Fanning is my hero....
- CyBrainX0
I hope the new Napster is a subscription service like http://www.emusic.com which I love.
I hope it puts the Apple Store out of business. 99¢ a song puts MORE money in the pockets of Satan than buying a CD. I can't believe how many people are so happy to be ripped off like that.
Shawn Fanning is God. I wish I could thank him a million times over.

napster is now a wolf in sheep's clothing.
fuck napster.
- jevad0
there wouldn't be any suck thing as mp3 trading, or fucking mp3's, if it weren't for napster you twod...
- scarabin0
1) i'm referring to napster at present time (hence use of word "now")
2) of course mp3s would exist without napster, you "twod"
- jevad0
gah - you know what I mean!

I still cant believe people think 99 cents is TOO much for a song... my bottle of Pepsi cost more and so does the sunday paper. How can you say that a great tune isnt worth less than a dollar to you, or even that a highly developed, updated and usuable service like itunes music store in which ads the tune right into your library isnt worth the pennies they get off each tune? This is coming from pretentious designers who think that creating a circle and adding text inside it, calling it a logo is worth 40 dollars an hour...
who's ripping who off?
- BonSeff0
most of the crap you can buy there is worth a dollar.
and no doubt most of those artists are glad to receive the 4 cents on that dollar.
or how ever many degrees of separation and contract negotiations afford them.
plus its so high tech!
- godot0
ouch. absolutely the best place to say that, silent.
- 187LockDown0
twod. Is a great word.
Napster will always rock even if they have to start chargin people for the service. I mean how else tdo you expect them to come back? Really?
You expect napster can just come buck throwin elbows talkin bout fuck the record companies were gonna let more kids download songs for free?
I owe my 5 Gigs of music to the napster revolution. Napster is our friend.

"This is coming from pretentious designers who think that creating a circle and adding text inside it, calling it a logo is worth 40 dollars an hour...
who's ripping who off?"Ya, and big name bands have very competitive hourly rates.
- 187LockDown0
yeah what sexy said.

Shawn Fanning used to go to my church here in Northern VA when he used to live her and before Napster took off.

look I am a designer who works and gets paid too and thinks I deserve the money but I also am a musician and respect all the hard work that goes into creating the music and even the harder work of getting it out there. I live by some of my favorite bands, and to think that a song that has and can extract emotions from me isnt worth a dollar is outragious. My point was no one expects your hard work to be free and when they do you come here to bitch about it so I can't understand how you expect their work to be free. these services give you the opportunity to own a favorite song for less than a bus ride and we still complain.
Its a fucking dollar already!! That's 40 songs for every hot shot designing hour. 320 songs for a days worth of work, 12,800 songs for one weeks worth. And you have the rest of your months, years, career, and life to enjoy them.
- Gorbie0
you make $12K a week, eh?
- CyBrainX0
Radiosilent, your attitude towards our profession is ignorant and easily dismissed as a random insult.
Your math about the songs per day/hour/etc, is convoluted.
Here's some math for you: If you buy a CD with an average of say, 15 songs, you spent about 99¢ a song and you have them for any amount of use you want. You can make your own mp3s and put them on an unlimited number of devices, unlike Apple's restrictions. With the CD, you also have the PACKAGING which you must know is the mojority of the expense of manufacturing. Apparently, you have no interest in the packaging or even the possibility of getting enhanced content. Apparently, you like being told where you can put your files too.
Here's some more math about subscription services. I belong to http://www.emusic.com where I pay $15 per month for UNLIMITED MP3s. Think about that for a while. I download several CDs per month. In the beginning, it was a lot more than that. How much per song does that add up to? If I download 10 CDs per month, it's 10¢ PER SONG.
You also seemed to be upset about piracy, which I never brought up, but since your undies are in a bind, I'll let you know how I feel about the recording industry, who sues it's teenage customers and lobbied to convince people that theft as heinous as reserving a book at a library or taking a used newpaper or recording on VHS from your television. It's all out war. I wish them the most costly of deaths.
Musicians will unfortunately have to make money elsewhere, subscription based sales, performing, etc. If you're in bed with Satan, expect bad things to happen.
- paulrand0
Dean, is it month to month, or do you commit for a length of time?
- CyBrainX0
I think I joined for 6 months ($90) and they are putting it on my credit card every month.
You won't find Britney or Puffy, but you can get some good stuff if you have a diverse taste in music. I hope that the online music business goes this way. I was so dissappointed Apple did it the way they did considering how good iTunes was built.
- scarabin0
bitching is pointless.
those who want free music will always have it, regardless of whether the artists want them to or not.
nothing will stop them.
- scarabin0
personally, i hate the new napster because they're trying to gain their former audience by straight up lying.
i mean look at their website animations. it's pure unadulterated bullshit.
and then there's this: http://www.wired.com/news/digiwo…
napster faking the street art medium ala nissan for corporate gains. it's an insult to the very demographic they're trying to win back.
fuck you, i say. just makes me wanna download more.
riaa will never win.
