that really fucked me off, just typed a big reply to this thread and notes popped up, pressed esc. and lost the feckin thread.
anyway to sum it up. seems to be a lot more print based jobs out there at the mo.
specifically POS, packaging and corporate stuff.

Sorry, I don't agree. I do the jobs of about 3 or 4 people in a "normal" agency and get about half the money. "Just over £1000" just covers my mortgage, loan and credit cards, food and bills. Edinburgh's not a cheap place to live.
National average for a designer (print, middleweight) is about £23.5k which translates to about £1550 per month, take-home pay.

dependes where you are based. also depends on if its 5 years experience or 5 years of experience developing and improving - not that i am saying your static
I am based in cardiff and take home £1700 and it suits me fine.

i think with that experience you should be on more money, but then there are a shitload of other factors to consider... eg:
is the work exciting/fulfilling?
do you really enjoy your job?
is it easy/quick to commute?
is it a small startup with potential?
are you working with friends?i get paid a lot more money than that but have had to trade off some creativity and fun for it, and i'm not so sure that it is worth it.

Bunkum, I totally agree. I'm skint just now but I get by. If I could come to work and enjoy it that'd more than make up for the cash.

I got made redundant in june, where I was earning £20k (3 years experience). finally got a job now where I'm earning £22.5, in the hope that it'll go up to £25k at chrimbo. just extremely glad I've got a job let alone any money coming in at all. thought I would have to start working at mcdonald's.... or even worse... AN OFFICE JOB! NOOOOO!!! AAARRRRGGGGGHH!!!
