to do...
here it goes...there is a job opening and i have already sent out my cv to an agency. i'm currently working at a decent place, the pay sucks, the environment is kind of not there as there are only like 4 people i deal with every day, lately i've had to answer phones because our "secretary" is MIA. My photoshop doesn't work and my boss says he doesn't have time to reformat my computer and wanted me to do it. I love the work when clients give us art in EPS but the other stuff is crap. the clients are good, and i think i may have reached my learning point. i will have been here for a year in two weeks.
if i would get this other job, how would i go about breaking up nicely with the guys who i get along with other than work shit. they are nice people but i think they are nice to me because i do everything they want me to. i've slept over the office and put in at least 80 hours each week.
will this be hard? any suggestions? thanks guys!

i think it depends on what type of people they are and how you go about "breaking up".
They can be dicks about it and tell you to go now and not come back or be happy for you.
hopefully your boss isn't a NT member.

I just love how it's your boss that formats the hard drives!
(er.... leave.... now.... no one is looking!)
- swollenelbow0
hah he's not...he knows about it but never goes on...i've done this before...
i really hope they aren't dicks about it...but it's kinda tough to tell...they will hate me because i was like all about the company but i thought they would change you know...it just never happend...and if it was or is, it's taking too long...

engage, i would imagine your studio kicks some serious ass...would you ever tell your designer to reformat his hard drive because they know how to, or to answer the phones for 3 weeks because you can handle lots of things at once?

There is only two of us : )
- swollenelbow0
bah! =) i guess it's a different story here...

With such a small team surely you should be getting some of the action... if not, they obviosly don't respeact you/you're not going to move up in the company... I've been there before, and glad I'm not there anymore

it sucks when you get along so well with people and because of job things get sticky...

this is easy.
it's a business. don't think twice about hurting their feelings. if they were really hurting, they would lay you off. that's how things work: people get laid off and people resign.
in terms of them being cool, if you just tell them you have another opportunity that should be fine. if they freak out and act like assholes, then you are better off not working with them in the first place.
as someone who was resigned, hired, fired, and laid people off, I wouldn't worry about it. I still have a lot of my past employees ask for recommendations and I gladly do.
now, don't stress about this unless you get the job.

exactly - it's a business - people come - people go. You are on to better and bigger things - good for you! Hand in your notice - and that's it.

if you wanna throw them a bone, give 4 weeks notice instead of 2

you want honest advice? do what you feel like doing, you can't go wrong. other than that, fuck it. :)
- swollenelbow0
this is all great advice guys...i'll keep you posted...
who knows what can happen in the depths of the great and mysterious "hicksville, long island"

Tell them you want to "move on".
Then thank them for whatever they've thaught you, and bring a few flowers to the office

k, this may sound harsh...
but, Get a life man. 80 hours a week? you answer the phones now? get a real job. If those peeps are your real friends, they aren't going to be upset that you get into something better, they're gonna be happy for you.

elbow,
it's better you leave. just tell them that you have found a new challenge. you can offer them to stay a little longer 'til your current projects are done - shake hands.
- unknown0
Would they think the same if they decided to move on, or do something else... I doubt it.
- pascii0
they would. i garantee
- save0
I think your a mug.....leave...... or else they'll just keep exploiting you!
