Well that's one less person using it badly then. It's a font not a fashion accessory.
A very beautiful font.
Try DIN it's probably more your 'scene'.

Do people actually use fonts because 'other' people are using them? Rather than using a font because it suits the project?
Debris: Do you hate Helvetica, or do you hate people using it?

hey build, and anyone else i might have pissed off by mistake. im not saying that i hate the people who use it at all. im saying that its being overused. some can use it properly, tDR, BUILD. but i does seem to be a fasionable font. i understand the value of it, but all good things must come to an end. right?

like micheal jordan. motherfucker should have ended it the first time!

i love helvetica

Helvetica is like Photoshop, universal, good or evil, as good as the person using it.
I love it because it's versatile, has one million versions and fits in many situations. One of my favorite uses is the white sanitation trucks in NYC that have black helvetica "sanitation" on the site.
I'm guessing what you hate is the helvetica black, kerned in on almost every zine in the last 3 years. Of course, that blows. People trying to make a name for themselives that way are much less schooled in design and typography than they imagine.

Again with the DIN diss.... tssss ;)
The reason why a lot of designers use Helvetica is because, simply put -- it is an extremely well thought through designed typeface that can be both treated as a neutral text face and as a specific design element.

My mums name is Helvetica and all this talk of 'hatred' and 'using' (let along 'using' badly) is making me sad.
Please stop, i'm about to shit the bed.
