There is a rule, but that has a time factor. It's something like two months for every year you were together, apparently. Once you've been split for that period, you officially have no fucking business with her at all.
So yeah, it's bad manners, but it's also not your business. In my opinion.
And yes, I've had friends date my ex's. Sometimes it was cool and other times our friendship crumbled.

although re-reading my post it sounds very harsh.
it's a case of accepted etiquette rather than manners... there's times when doing something is impolite but at the same time, trying to stop it is a worse thing to do.
if they're going to be together, they'll ask you. whether they ask you because they want you to know or because they want your approval is unknown to me, of course. but they will ask you. and you're going to have to deal with it. and in time, it'll be cool.

The same happened to me a year ago. It happens all te time. I felt shit . I was battered, a very dark period, all kinds of paranoia scenarios struck me but managed to keep my actions in hand.
After a year it turned out she did it to hurt me in an unconscious way. So typical for her. I can see now that relying on my rational senses i overwon myself once more. These things tell you something about yourself. I learned its better to put your energy in something constructive turns out for the better.
You'll have it hard but keep it real which I think you will.
