product placement

I was watching final destination 2 tonight, and I noticed that vw and apple were a huge product placement in the movie.
I don't mind it when it suttle, but I found it a bit tacky in this movie.
Can anyone else think of a really bad or really good product placement in movies or tv?

I think we get too caught up in noticing that. I think it is more of making the scene look more familiar and realistic. Although, it can get pretty bad. Like when you are watching TRL on MTV. That is pretty bad.
Can't believe I made that reference but it is pretty obvious there.

I know what ya mean, but I was watching it and I kept pointing out how bad it was to my girlfriend.
I think that they can do it with a more suttle aproach.

Not only can they. They should. As the owner or marketing team of a big company like that, I would never want to make it so obvious that it deters people from the product.
What can you do?

I was reading a mag in singapore and they asked random people if they spotted product palcement in movies and this dumb bitch said "yes, the wilson ball from castaway".
I found that pretty funny.

Mike Myers dows product placement pretty well. Takes the piss out of it but still gets the $'s in the end. Hes a clever chap

I think the worst movie was Josie and the pussycats. Man, I took my little sis to see it and there is blatant ad placement everywhere. Its funny because the story line is about a guy who is sneaking subliminal messages into the songs to make peeps buy more music. Oh and mission to mars had bad ad placements too. Way to obvious and blatant

you guys sound pretty wild and crazy!

I mean there is a good way to approach it, and then there are movies and shows that just do a shitty job.
After starting this thread I was flipping through the channels, and I caught a bit of the new road rules, and they were wearing capri sun shirts, then when they were doing their missions they showed them sweating and drinking capri suns.

no what's much, much better is post-product placement. they had tossed around the idea of digitally adding cans of Coca-Cola into reruns of syndicated Friends episodes.
Could that BE any more blatant?
But as far a Josie & the Pussycats - that was the joke! It was supposed to be funny. Esp when that one (the blonde) was washing herself in the shower with a McDonald's FryGuy.
And in Minority report, it was almost plot-based placement. Same with those paper "cans" of beer. Whatever happened to those?

Yeah Davetufts, we are crazy, after we watched the movie we played PING PONG, it was out of control!

matrix:reloaded was big cadillac commercial. it hurt the freeway scene in my opinion

Consider the genious of the product placement in "josie and the pussycats"
they managed to be creative, sarcastic, and get paid big time.
probably set the record for 2 hours of product placement.

'Wilson' in Castaway.

josie was a shitty movie, but I guess it didn't matter to the people recieving the check for all of the indorsements.

What about that Gateway or Dell ad that had a guy using a G4 powerbook in one of the pics? Product placement ?!
