all i have to say on the matter is this:
a couple of weeks ago my mother went to the emergency room because of severe pain due to a recurrance of kidney stones.
the doctor's cure: drink water and take motrin
the bill: $3,000
how the fuck is that fair
in regards to the theory that healthcare would degrade to the level of education if it was free:
isn't is plausible that they both would be of high quality if funded and regulated properly by the government?

what type of tests were run on your mother to determine that though, instantok?

really, Did she go in an ambulance?

People skipping out on medical payments makes the prices go even higher.

anyone suggesting government healthcare is step forward hasn't dealt with a govt. agency before. the red tape and bs in healthcare is already a mess. let the govt. take control and that will worsen. and yes the quality of service will suffer.
the comparison to public schools is quite valid. privitization would be good for both. free markets fix problems governments do not.
don't compare our healthcare problem to countries with a fraction of the population and a socialist. it does make a difference. it may sound cold but i don't want to share my neighbors medical bills.
the US needs to reexamine its whole outlook on health and wellness. there are alternatives that are affordable.

Canadian teachers are very well paid. You can easily make 60k after a few years.

"i don't want to share my neighbors medical bills."
"United we Stand" my ass.

Ha, good point, Montreal!
I love the irony of Republicans/America Firsters who dragged us into a war with Iraq, telling us we need to liberate those 22 million people from oppression while here at home they're fine with the fact that 30 million Americans don't have healthcare. Heil Patriot!

No offense Atticus, but what do those two things have to do with each other? I dont see the irony.
- Atticus0
The irony I was trying to illustrate is that many of the patriots who chant "united we stand" deride us liberals as america haters who dont care about our own interests when we don't want to go to war. But at the same time they are quite unconcerned about millions of real Americans who need healthcare badly but still go without any kind of coverage.

we don't pay for health care
we pay only for dentist and eye and other stuff but with a 10 $ / month plan u get full coveragewe don't pay any drugs, any surgery
everything is paid by the government in francesocial is very important here :
unemployment benefit (i've friends doing about 1500 $ a month for 36 months under unemployment) .. etc etc..
if u have ni income at all in france : we have RMI : minimum revenue : it's about 350 $ a month for on person and on top of that u get 200 $ for a room.. not much u will say but better than nothing

another example :
i'm having serious surgery in septemeber (one month in hospital ) well listen to this :i'm getting 100 % of my salary
i'm getting my own room (single ) in the hospital
i'm getting a taxi 2 times a day for the 15 days i spend at home to go where is want to (..yes.. )
i have ONE paper to send to my employer : he does the rest.. everything is done for meWHY the FUCK should i worry when i'm sick and i neeed surgery on things like : HOW much is it gonna be ? how am i gonna pay my rent ?
it's called public healthcare.. and iit rocks !!
even if it cost us billions because of old people taking too much drugs
