I am thinking of going from Web Design to Print but have never done any print work at all.
I have 4 years experience in web design but that is not going to get me a graphic design job even with that 4 years experience right,
So do you have any ideas how I would market myself for a graphic design job so I can get my foot in the door so to speak.
Any ideas would be welcome.

mock ads.
your design experience will count for a lot. (unfortunatly it is harder to go from print to "multimedia")wouldnt hurt to take on some freelance print jobs. maybe just some brochures or something to help pack your folio and get some practice in. but really, it is all about samples. even mock ads are good for getting your foot in the door.
rule #1: you can't print actual size at 72dpi. it looks worse than turds. =)

Actions speak louder than words.
Put together a portfolio. stay away from flyer, T-shirt and poster design if possible... everyone's doing those things at the moment...think magazine design, book cover design, annual report and corporate brochure...
...above all else, show that you can think, come up with ideas. If you can do that then any medium (web, print..etc) is your oyster.
A understanding of the basic production (how to design for print) is secondary to your ideas.

Call a local printer, ask him if you can go check things out and ask him questions. Like, what kind of documents do they take, how must they be arranged for them to be able to print em up, etc.

all good points. also try doing some print work for non profits for free. mockups are fine but if it doesnt come off the press, its not real.

ya thats the other problem I seem to have.
I do not no about how to get a design to print.
You now what I mean colour separation, spot coulur, 4 and 8 colou printing, trapping and all that tech stuff.
- BonSeff0
your printer will handle all those issues. (separations and trapping) its part of the printing cost

go tour a printer, ill bet you will enjoy it

wayne, you might have to start out as a junior designer in print, but a lot of these problems can be worked out when you get them. it is ALWAYS a good idea to have a good relationship (sexual if possible) with your printer. they can tell you everything that they need and explain to you what is "good for them".
bonseff has the right idea about non-profit and charity. sure, you may do some free work, but they will pay for it to be printed, so you can design and avoid the cost of printing. believe me, if you start getting a printer to just run 20 copies of something you made for you folio, they will charge the shit out of you. it will add up quickly.
i had a few mockups in my folio under a plastic sheet so that you couldnt tell it was only 1 page. so that is one way around it.
and remember, you can get away with a certain amount of bullshitting... just dont over do it.
