bicycles get no respect

I ride my bicycle everywhere here in Chicago, and people in cars actually slow down to YELL at me. They say things like "get a car!", "you suck!", etc. I had the same shit happen to me in Austin, Atlanta, and Baltimore. Chicago actually has bike lanes, so my bicycle doesn't affect traffic at all.
Is this angry-car-driver deal an American thing, or do you guys overseas get the same treatment?

yes. they're mad cause you have a nice ass and they know when they're girlfriend/wife is in the car with them they are checking it out.
to REALLY piss them off i recommend riding around in speedos.
if you are a size 32 waist, i'd say buy a pair of 24 inchers to maximize the effect.

yell back, tell them to get off of their fat asses once in a while. I almost got in a fight with a fat fucker that almost ran my pedestrian ass over a few months back. I told him if he wasnt so lazy, he might actually get out of his car and receive an ass whipping that would be rivaled only by the one his daddy used to give him. he drove off quickly. people talk alot of shit, call them out on it and generally they will shut up.

here in philly i get people yelling at me to get out of the way when they are trying to drive through the bike lane i am in...i just point to the sign and ride slower :)...i hate when people dont look before opening their car doors....scary

a middle-finger works quite well, seems people are so much tougher when they are inside a car. I once followed a kid who flicked me off to his house and got out of the car and said, 'hello you just flicked me off and cut me off'. He got quite scared when he saw me and knew it was me. Wasn't flicking me off then haa, haa muhaa muhaaaa (evil laugh), that was fun!

in college i rode a bike everywhere. when i lived near campus. no one ever said anything.
then again, i had red (sometimes black) hair and a green (sometimes white or yellow) goatee... so not many people really wanted to talk to me anyway. heheh.

I ride a bike also through downtown Chicago, an people in cars need to chill. The thing I hate most is when peole honk for no reason, or becuse I am riding my bike in the street. I have found the crazer you ride the less likeley people will fuck with you. I enjoy going the wrong way down one ways, and not stoping for stop signs. I hit about one to two cars a week, mostly from car doors opening.
Its crazy mad... We need truck horns or something to fight back.

ok, feasible solutions to the problem:

2. get an air horn
3. cover yourself with fake blood and black war paint
4. ride like there are demons chasing you
