Umm.
What the fuck is going on here. Jaz - for someone who regards themselves as someone who makes 'good music' and 'knows their shit' - you sure know how to speak some crap. While I can't be bothered nitpicking on all the ridiculous shit you've said about how 'hip hop isnt music' etc I will say that quality hip hop - as with any other genre is just that - quality.
Other points you said that really pissed me off include:
"I don't care whom it is, Hip-Hop is a freakin' joke musically speaking. Same shit that I make, so touche!"
It's not a 'freakin' joke' musically - unless of course you don't know what IS good musically - then again - you say it's the same as the mainstream stuffs you make so maybe you've answered your own point already.
"You can make a quality hip-hop song in like 2 hours if you wanted if you are trained with samplers and even a basic step sequencer, etc. Fun shit though!"
Sure - you can make a nice sounding series of loops that people can rhyme over in that time but I thought we were talking about writing actual quality tracks - which, forgive me if I'm wrong, would involve some significant degree of recording, production etc.
"white engineers are generally the ones that get the full thick sounding Hip-Hop songs to come out well, not street thugs"
What the fuck is this? So black people are street thugs huh?
"Hip-Hop and Trip-Hop, virtually the same concept."
yeah - in the same way that emo might be classified as being the same as hardcore...
"most of the Hip-Hop I've heard live sounded like feedback rubbish. "
well maybe you should stop seeing shit. For someone who considers themselves to be so 'adept' musically you sure don't seem to know shit about what you're talking about.

A lower plateu is what we're above,
If you diss us we wont even think of,

as the ignorance on NT continues
Im just wondering do any of you super critical people ever do any work? Not only do you guys waste all you time hating on things, but you dont even know what your talking about, and Im not gonna waste my time explaining I have work to do
- JazX0
I stand by my words, musically it's horrible, can you say midi, ten times fast?
- JazX0
PS, I never claimed to be the Almighty in reference to sound, I just try to help people, it's just my opinion and I'm allowed to have one the last time I checked. ;)
- kpl0
yup, you have a right to your opinion, no matter how surprisingly stupid and ignorant it may be.
- JazX0
Ohh I guess so? Woot woot. ;)
- cookie0
i'm with kpl.
Nothing sums up jaz's comments better.

i like midi... tons of albums are recorded midi, not just rap or hip hop. in fact, a lot of your more popular rock albums are midi drums. Nothing wrong with that, someone still has to play it. nothing 'less musical' about it.
long live tribe!

Please people don't kid yourselves. Don't sit there and tell me that HIP-HOP is in the same category musicaly as the Beatles, or Pink Floyd or Marvin Gaye or Miles Davis or Louis Armstrong ect.
These are people that have studied and been inovators in the art form of music.
Hip-HOP is less about music and more about image.People don't flock to buy 50 cent records because of his musical talent, they buy it because of his thug image, so that these suburban wannabes can live out their gangster fantasies.
Like I said before, I love Hip Hop and when it's good, (5% of the time) it's amazing. But I love it for what it is, not because i think it's good music.
- quamb0
agreed prome4heus.
though no one is comparing hip hop to the beatles...
and no one is saying any of that MTV hip hop is good...
am trying to point out that there is some ACE hip hop out there that IS very good MUSIC.
since when does hip hop have to be about "50cent" or "midi loops"
hey- pick a genre, and i could make the same argument by blabbering out some commercial ass shit then pronouncing that therefore the genre aint music
- cookie0
firreal quamb. For people like jaz to poopoo all hip hop is just plain silly! There's bound to be crap in ALL genres - that isn't to dictate that the entire genre is a crock of shit.

check out Dakah - a live hip hop orchestra from LA and tell me that's not music!
- cookie0
StyleJunky! I wanna check out Dakah but can't find no mpeethreesss!!! Know where I can find any!?!?

just last week my girl was
stressing menow her best friend be
undressing me
- JazX0
yep
- kpl0
well quamb, I believe I did compare tribe to the beatles, which was for much of their career a bubble-gum pop group. and I'll go as far to say the MTV stuff ain't half bad. Things were worse three, four years ago, thank the lord for the Neptunes. anyway...
prom, you too have a right to your stupid and ignorant opinions too. Tell me how Common, Bahamadia, DJ Shadow, Automator, Prince Paul, Del & Heiroglyphics, Aceyalone & the Freestyle Fellowship, Lyrics Born, Lateef, Blackalicious, Peanut Butter Wolf, Organized Konfusion, KRS-ONE, Planet Asia, Zion I, Atmosphere, Sage Francis, Sole, El-P & Company Flow, Aesop Rock, J-Live, etc. are less about music and more on image.
And stop playing amateur psycologist. 50 cent did not become what he is today because of the suburbs.

kpl
you've just named some of my favourite artists , the 5% real Hip Hop that i talked about before.
while your assertion is correct that good, underground Hip Hop cares less about image than the commercial hip POP bullshit, I still don't listen to it because of the musical quality.
I listen and love the aforementioned artists because of their rhymes and their message and their creativity and their beats and the overall mental stimulation I get from listening to them.
and 50 cent wouldn't be anywhere today if he wasn't introduced to the suburban masses by eminem.
- kpl0
don't say hip-hop is about image then, because it's not true for the whole. hip-hop is much more than mtv and always has been.
and no, 50 is not a creation of the suburbs. this is a guy who has been creating buzz since '99 and has been a superstar in the NY mixtape scene. suburb kids are the johnny-come-latelys and will latch on whoever's popular, and 50 was hot way before eminem came along.
