... so... I've known (well.. sorta known) After Effects for about a week now.
Thought I'd try my hand at making a reel of my web work.

crit the hell out of this please... bear in mind... I made this in about 8 hours today... and I've barely used After Effects... so be nice!
... I know flash okay and have somewhat of a grasp on motion.

I thought that was very cool man. Especially for only working in AE for a week. I liked the colors a lot. The only crit in the intro is to maybe have your title's bounce a bit more. They sort of have the feeling of it but the abruptly stop. Nice work.

I think it's way cool that you put demos of your sites into a reel like that. Usually when I see a reel online, it will consist mostly of motion work, so I think it's unique that you have that to showcase your webwork (which, by the way, is also top notch).
Have you considered motion work? I'd love to create something like this, I'm just too crapped out and lazy.

Zach... now that I've found out that After Effects is so cool - yeah, I'm very interested in getting into broadcast type stuff. I think my next software venture is going to be something in the 3D family.

it's pretty cool - the beat is nice and very unanoying (which is quite rare recently).
however, i've never understood the CONCEPT of a reel. I'm a partner in a small web firm, and when ever we're hiring a freelance designer, I want to see (1) direct link to the site, (2) what was you exact role in create the site, (3) screen shot/short description.
I would much rather just go to the site in your portfolio than download a 9+ meg presentation of stuff you've worked on...

... links weren't sufficient.. .so I was forced to create this.
I agree w/you Dave. But on the other hand -- 9 megs streaming to the people requesting this is nothing.. and they get to see some motion and web in under 2 mins.
If they want to see more after that -- they can goto the site.

I think the reel, used to present web work is a fine idea. It streams in right away and didn't stop once on my cable connection. I've seen a few reels of web work, but this is by far the best I've seen. Congratulations, you know your animation. I think as you use it more, you will experiment with more of the filters and effects. Try to get some Final Effects/Digi Effects and look into those. (not that you needed it for this)
I'm warning you: After Effects is VERY addicting. Since, you're good at it, I'm sensing a new career direction. I love it too and will be learning Maya very soon. I want to do work like this all the time.
The only criticism I would make is that you show a lot of rollovers in the reel. I would only like to see a couple to get the feel of how the stie works and looks. After that, I would want to move on to the next segment/project.
