lolo77, i wish to take a dump in the mouths of you and your entire family for every time you post that fucking link. I'm sick to capacity of blanket advertising, especially when people don't even bother thinking if anyone's going to be interested in it.
If you're automating site creation, you are trying to replace us, or convince the people who hire us that they can have exactly what they think design is for a lot less than hiring a brain in a jar.
It's an unbounded act of fuckery, an attempt to further distory people's perceptions of what we do for a living. I still stand by my word that if a client wants something stupid, it is your job to convince them out of it, because that is the service you provide. You are hired because you know about things the managers don't. I know that's not how it often works in practice but I do what I can to teach clients about the process. I'm going now, to nail a pigeon to a tree. It's quite theraputic.

this shit should be banned

I really don't see the problem in it! half the sites that appear on here could have come from the same template!
Do they have a diagonal line module to make it 'designery'?

what i think would be much more effective and fun for this crowd would be a site generator that created sites with all the current design trends...
not that it would be far more complex than what these guys are offering. At least it would piss more people off who use these trends as a par t of their religion.

Yeah, but you forget that the public doesn't notice, or care, about the 'trends'. So you would essentially be taking business away from yourself, if the product looked half decent.
My gripe is that this is like other creative professions where the designer becomes bypassed completely. Granted, there are plenty of cheap, bad designers our there, but encouraging the 'designer' to be eliminated from the process is bad for the 'image' of the profession.
Perhaps it doesn't matter so much with graphic design, but with architecture it is an ongoing debate. It comes down to how much the general populace cares, how much they should care, and how it reflects on society (well, with that in mind, maybe I am bringing too much baggage to this discussion...uh, I guess if you got this far, just forget the other stuff ;-)
What I would like to see is a product that made my PHP and MySQL all in one package. That should be there. It is pretty standardized for the simpler stuff, right? I'd buy that.

well mbr, im working on just such a thing. Moreso for myself than anything to take care of the basics for any cms. As far as getting it out to the public, it'll take a looong time for me to finish it as I add a lil here and there per project.
I hear some of the ready made cms tools aren't too bad at what they do, although the thing i'm making actually generates all the code in my own personal style with my own classes, etc.
The trend creator idea was more of a small poke at the trendies who don't solve problems, just apply tools.

oooh i'll submit a controversial colour palette generator for it
