Wtf? I can't think of a place where you're likely to get less custom from. Post that on silicon.com and someone'll say "here's an idea, we'll do this instead of hiring someone" but here's something of a different story.

i laughed histerically.. made about 3 sample site with it in my procrastination.
i say more power to em.. they can take as many cheap clients as they want.

that site builder makes me sick. really sick.
- krist0ff0
reminds me a little of http://www.moonfruit.com.
personally i think all these kind of things are proper shite and is pretty much the internet equivalent of producing a magazine using word and clipart.

hehehe... kristOff.....
"make your own design. people spent years making programation, studying design , but you can make your cool website in 5 minutes"
- enobrev0
i think it's fantastic..
i hope they make good money off it too. if you're really counting on the people who pay them for their cookie cutters, then you may want to look at your target market a littel closer.

It's more the link getting posted here that I have issue with. Like I said, post the link on some management site and boom, four hundred new clients but post it here? Asking for a flaming.
- enobrev0
we should make out own pop music generator.
- enobrev0
i just emailed the link to a guy who was offering me squat for a site he was considering.
either he'll enjoy it or he'll leave me alone... either way i laugh on him.
- krist0ff0
yeah totally agree enobrev, it's probably pretty clever to make it all work. respect.
it's just that you SO know the sites produced with it will make you want to vomit.
- jevad0
i wish they'd stop fucking spam posting it every day - it's a shit site and shit concept - fuck off
- Danski0
Pop music generator, good. Selling it to the RIAA, better :)

It's bad for business and the perception of the web, but I guess it could look worse.
With architecture, you have all the developers/contractors that bypass a decent architect to put up more crap. They just use stock plans and alter a few things, or worse, they think they can design.
Same things here. Even though the people that will use that are most likely too cheap to hire someone decent, it still spreads word that it's 'easy' to design a site, which makes us all look bad. Again, same thing with architecture. Most people think we design Victorians or Colonials. I will die before I ever 'design' a regurgitated design from life times ago!!
Ah, I get to rant about two things at once! I feel a little better...

I don't understand this whining. They only claim they make "professional looking" websites. Not professionally designed websites, but sites that mimic the look and feel of a professional website. If that is good enough for somebody you don't really want to have them as your clients anyways.
IMHO these services just make designers push the ways to use of medium further. If you can't compete with them you shouldn't be in this business anyway. No business can be successful in the long run, if they can't differentiate and communicate to the potential clients why they are better.
- krist0ff0
"professional looking" for fucks sake!! i hope you are not serious.
no i am not worried about FlashSites4U.com taking away some 2 bit client from me... what worries me is the more total shite on the internet the less the general public will want to use it.
it is already a giant rubbish tip with a few nuggets of gold (this being one). so i would rather there was less signal/noise out there and i don't think a design portal is the place to dump some more bullshit marketing-type spam personally.
i disagree that that is whining.
- ridiculous0
umm...
FINNISH ?
- ridiculous0
FINNISH ?
- Blofeldt0
I think it's ok.
A client comes to you with $200 for a flash site. You take the $200 and make the site using flash4u and pocket $150 for 30 minutes work.
- blend30
hmmm,
yeah, I'm finnish. You got a problem with that? ;)
Back to the subject. You might try to think of it this way:
The sites created are not more total shite on the internet. It is those horrible black and green sites from 1995 finally upgrading just a bit. You know them mom and pops shops that are just trying to survive. They are not cheapskates, they just don't have resources of international corporations competing with them.About spam:
I agree with you, but also see that something like this might actually turn into a usable tool sometime in the future. A lot of people were actually dissing dreamweaver and other Wysiwyg tools back in the day. Give it time.
- krist0ff0
blend3, tried thinking of it that way. still don't agree (god i must be argumentative today)
i would prefer a 'horrible black and green site' because at least it wouldn't be some dial-up users nightmare bloated flash file with ugly animations. adding sound and background images hmmm a recipe for filesize disaster dont you think?
surely they would be better off spending their limited resources on a clean, simple html template and let the content do the talking?
as for the second point, in the future it could be a reasonable tool... very true and if that does ever happen then i would be interested to see it, but it's not nearly there yet...
and as for dreamweaver - i hate to have to admit that i actually do still diss it!
- enobrev0
i dont know.. trash is going to be there regardless, the sites created by it most liekely wont be visited by anyone...
and i HATE DW, although I use it because they stopped updating homesite and a lot of the designers i've worked with use it, so i see what they see.
