Bloomberg is trying to get some money!
Just saw the (Dutch) news today, and what I saw made me drop my jaw on the floor:
NYC is in major debt (about 4 billion) and after raising taxes (some are ridiculously high now), mayor Bloomberg introduced a daily fine-target for police officers to get.
Now, people in NY can get fined for the most absurd offences:
there was this store owner who got fined for having too many words on his front-porch. 2500 $ !! Yes, that is 2500 bucks! While NYC is stuffed with similar stores having at least as many, if not more, words on the stores' front porch. The neighbouring store immediatly changed his because that was a lot cheaper then to get a fine like that.
Then, another which left me amazed: sitting on the street on a crate is an offence as well, you get fined right away, while even not knowing there exists a rule for it...
wtf?
Can anyone from NYC verify all this?
Do you have more bizarre examples to add?

my boy was telling me about watching a pregnant woman (who was apparently almost done) getting ticketed for sitting on some mta stairs...
loitering.
That's just fucking silly.

Not exactly. It's tough cause they raised the ticket penalties from $55 to $105 but NY is still NY. It's really al temp so that NY can find it's way out of debt but NY has always been in debt. The events of 9-11 didn't cause this. The debt from 9-11 has already paid itself off.
No big deal. Don't care for Bloomberg myself but it's not forever. At least we aren't ready to combust like they are predicting Europe is headed but at the same time it's not the best time to move here. Always has been an expensive place.

Terrorists will have to think twice before going to the Big Apple.

"At least we aren't ready to combust like they are predicting Europe is headed".
Just a little rise on the temperature, nothing much,

this kinda' stuff happens all the time not only in NYC or America. If only half the cities of the world would speak of their debt as well.

yeah, i wouldn't expect this piece of shit get re-elected.

the only thing is that this is all relative, in debt to whom foreign investors, US Government domestic investors? NYC really doesn't give a crap to be honest, whether Bloomberg takes care of the problem or not.

I'm just waiting for the subway fare to get back to normall, but according to some friendly boot worker i shouldn't expect that to happen any time soon.

I agree Rudy should just pull a dictator type thing like the African and Arab leaders do. Changing their constitution to suite themselves but in this case it would have suited the average NYer. ;)

Than again in this city everyone is trying to screw evryone else...
