Best place to get a free meal is at some art gallery openings, especially if they're held at a college. Just find out the day and time, show up, the artist will love you for showing up, and feast on the free booze and sometimes free finger food.

I'm too uppity to bring msyelf to buy ramen. But when I am really broke, I cook noodles and I add chopped steak to them. I just divide the piece of steak in two portions so I have another meal the day after. Add in some butter+some kind of vegetable in it and voila! You're still hungry. But it's still a meal. Bagels are kind of cheap and fill-in holes nicely too.

Man, I remember starting the same thread over a year or so ago when I was dead broke and that was my diet.
I liked it with maybe a can of tuna fish, browned a bit. Or, if you have some chicken breasts, cook one in a pan and have that with it.

Has anyone ever looked closely at the Nutritional Facts on the back of a Ramen package? One serving is half a package, and the sodium for one serving is fucking gastronomical! Seriously. So imagine what it is for a whole package.
Now that I've finished ranting, I'm going to go make myself a grilled cheese and fries.

...which has about the same amount of sodium.

get the asian ramen. korean, japanese, thai - these are the best. you will have to trek to the asian grocer, but it's worth it. you will pay a bit more, but to eat a little better than nasty ramen is a good thing. to the korean ones (u-dong, kimchi, shin ramen) i would add an egg right into the noodles, either egg-drop style or just boiled. and yes, these also have tons of sodium and MSG.
recommended asian ramen:
korean (udong, kimchi, kalgooksu, yookgaejang)
japanese (sapporo ichiban)

Actually, no, they don't, when you make them from scratch.

i make curried chicken/pork/beef with ramen instead of rice.

"One serving is half a package, and the sodium for one serving is fucking gastronomical!"
that's why i use about half a packet of the broth mix that it comes with.

When Im really broke, I go to the store by my crib that has a salad bar, load up with spinach mushrooms and red onions in a salad container, costs like $1, make ramen in the wok and then right before they are done lay the salad combo on top and steam them for about a minute.
Forget them flavor packets, I use crushed red pepper that I ganked from a thai restaurant by my house and my own spices.
If you dont use the flavor packets, that stuff has to be semi-healthy.
Also, if it tastes bland from not using the flav pack, use soy or teriyaki.

enobrev's ideas are famous... i will try them out next time i am poor. which should be tommorow.
my favorite ways to eat cheap, taught by years of barely successfull freelanceing...
can of pintos can of green beans box of corn muffin mix. 2 meals, 1.30$
.99c box of salteen crackers 1.40 can of salmon
1 egg
rice
black eyed peas makes 4 meals, at about $2.50. plus leftover crackers.blackbeans, cumin, rice and canned corn. 1$ 2 meals.
spag of course has to be in there.
its a wash without the garlic salt though.generic mac and cheese at .40c a box
drink water.
get your beers at art shows as previously mentioned.
buying a 15$ rice maker makes making rice easy.
kroger sliced cheese is the cheapest pound for pound. (although its not exactly cheese.)
raman sux but at least its only 15c a package.

need the recipe nameless?

drop an egg in your ramen when its cooking... yumm
also, slightly undercook the noodles, drain and mix them up with the seasoning and chopped up chicken cutlet and garlic. i prefer the vegetable ramen for this one.
i seriously love creamy chicken ramen, its the shit. i could eat it every day.
also, i like to eat ramen noodles uncooked... yummy fried noodles :) other people also drain the water out and just mix some of the package in with the noodles. i never really liked that too much.
pasta is really cheap. go to the dollar store or costco/sams club and buy it in bulk... one box is a few meals for one.

pesto sauce and pasta. dead cheap and tasty.
