oops! - what did i start! ;)
I agree with seph that dance music USED to be better.
I used to be into dancey stuff and even hardcore stuff like bass generator and die witness etc.
But going back to the late 80's and early nineties.
when dance music was TRULY PIONEERING and we saw it as THE FUTURE.
but the truth is, dance music has hit its peak and has now evened out. The music isnt ground breaking anymore - its ALL THE SAME!
It hasnt taken us to a higher dimension (well, maybe folk on the E's have been) or evolved further.
I'd bet a high percentage of folk my age who were into dance stuff back late 80's/early 90's dont actually listen to modern dance stuff cos they think its shite - i bet they've turned back onto guitar music or prefer to sit in and listen to those old Rez mixtapes or listen to their 12"s of 808 state and early underworld stuff.peace

I listen mostly to Pink Floyd these days, music for the has-beens, its just so tuneful and mellow.
Maybe it was all the drugs, I dunno.

Great tune, was on one of the first garage tapes I ever heard mixed by easygroove.

i'm over paying out on ravers.
they enjoy it...
so what?
I don't like the music ...
they do...
so what?people seem to arc up so bad whenever someone discusses this but when it comes down to it - the scenes changed, people have changed, people are going for dif. reasons but are still enjoying themselves so who fucking cares.
well... obviously people do but what i'm saying is maybe it's time to move on.
:)

Nothing wrong with Tiesto, fair enough he's not the best when it comes to mixing but Production wise the guy has created and remixed some gems. Examples:
Nyana
Flight 643
Southern Sun
Magik Journey
The list goes on.As for my fav. DJs after a few and also when im sober:
-Darren Tate (DJ & Producer)
-Ronski Speed (DJ & Producer)
-Ferry Corsten (DJ & Producer)
-Marco V (DJ & Producer)
-Tiesto (DJ & Producer)Oakie was up there but more recently has shifted styles. Not saying its a bad thing but back in the day when he was slapping out all the perfecto stuff he was at his peak.

konspiracy is right.
I like dance music and hip hop.. in fact, I only listen to music that is made with machines..
And evendough I saw most of the global underground dj's (in fact I had Vj for oakenfold and digweed before)
And they are just names..
There is a difference between the ones that "select" music and the ones that actually "play" it.

Jasus, lots of grumpy bitter old men in here.
There seems to be some resentment in here for Dj's who have made it big. Just like theres resentment in here for designers who make it big.
The way I see it, we as designers, just like Dj's, are lucky to be in a career where we can have a certain amount fame and status if we do good in our areas.
But with fame and success, comes jelousy and resentment. If you dont like the sound of it, dont listen to it. If you don't like the look of it, don't look at it. But don't hate.
At the end of the day, i'll still put on some good old fashion acoustics to take the blues away, but it is nice to go out and loose yourself now and again. Long live choice.
