Sorry kpl didnt intend to tell people what you were saying, I was just expressing my opinion on the matter.
I see what your saying, I agree that amongst like minded musos then it might be easier to compare within catagories.
IMHO the whole dance music scene used to be united, and it was a better place then, easier to understand and easier to get into. Its all so exclusive and 'in the know' these days that its lost a lot of its appeal.
I guess I am just a burnt out ex-raver who doesnt understand the dance music scene anymore, forgive me.

dont forget that dj'ing isn't all about cutting and scratching - people like sasha are more known for feeling out a crowd and bringing them up through the night. Back in 91 when I would see sasha regularly he could rock a crowd by dropping in obscure old records and would also do some scratching.
That being said I personally prefer cutting and scratching but it can be rather boring if your out on the dancefloor and some egotist DJ is wanking over his transformer - boring. Coldcut and DJ food are certainly worth a big mention here because they can raise a crowd and provide all the breaks and scratches you need without being self indulgent.

Coldcuts album was big dissapoitment for me, music by numbers, but he is a good DJ.
Very true what you said Rasko.
It was all much better back in the day etc etc fart, grumble, yawn.
Anyone heard of Christian Vogel?

DJ scene is really dying in Dublin. I've heard claims that it's down to people not doing pills anymore and suddenly realising all that house and techno they used to listen to is complete and utter wank... ;)

i'm no too keen on this thread, you see i got a real problem with 'djays',they're just ten a penny, i began to think of all the pricks i've met in the last few years, suddenly we're all djs, personally i think they should be 'kept' on a radio, and wheeled out occassionally for a wedding. admittedly, they have came on a lot, from a little booth festooned with flashing lights to appearing on chat shows. it's all that finger in the ear shit that gets me, as for working the room, well anybody can do that, ministers, strippers, retired golfers on the afterdinner speech circuit, for me djs are like painters and decorators, and to a lesser extent tilers, folk insist on paying money for things they can easily do themselves. dj's...i shit them!!!

there comes a point when one realises that bouncing around a dancefloor sweating profusely with your arms flailing all over the place whilst simultaneously gurning like a champion is just not a sophisticated and stylish thing to be doing.

I think I just grew out of a lot of it, moved onto another phase, I dont think its wank, its just doesnt have the same exciting menace and implications that it was once loaded with.
I am still discovering music from the early nineties rave scene that I overlooked then, some amazing stuff was made during that period.
see:
The Black Dog
Aphex Twin
A guy called Gerald
Soma (nearly all their records)
The scientistscant be arse to continue with this list.....
Point is (believe it or not), young people out there between 15 - 20 are still going to cheesey raves and listening to happy hardcore, Goa Trance etc etc and loving it. Our generation has moved on, as will theirs.
- unknown0
the thing that makes me laugh is that this 'new generation' is out there listening to the same 40 year old DJ's that were there 15 years ago... thats bullshit, but still they suck it up!

Rasko, yeah but I'd love to though really, its only the tithead factor that stops me.
Maybe I'll go on my own someday to some handbag rave and give it the large one on the dance floor, scare a few kids, throw some shapes, fall over.

heheh.. so long as you throw down some headspins like your pic there!
