I'm doing CDRom for the Italian Institute of Geology. Its taken me 3 months and I only had about 10 days to go. Then today the science boffs from the Institute all decide to get together in the same room to discuss the CDrom (about 3 months too late). Hey presto they want to change about 80% of the content, add a few buttons here, a few buttons there, got a few nifty ideas for a glossary, make it keyword searchable. Change buttons on main menu, make space for another 2 buttons etc etc you get the idea.

f***!!!! It was fun the first time around but doing the entire thing again is going to drive me insane.

How do these fellas that call themselves 'scientist' ever get anything done? No wonder a cure for cancer has never been found, dont be impressed by the term 'scientist', they are all just idiots like you and me.

That stinks. I've had similar experiences in the past. Be sure clearly state what will be built up front in your contract. Have a sign off stage for both content and design. State in the contract that any deviation from this guide will be considered scope creep and require additional payment. I assume you don't have this stated in your contract, but you may want to mention that these changes would be considered beyond the original agreement and would require more time and an extended budget. No contractor would almost finish building a house then allow their client to change were they want to have the garage.

well, if you had a contract you would be a lot better off. if you would have had them sign off on the design 3 months ago for you to continue, and NOW they want all of these changes you could have referred them to your contract that said "blah blah blah by signing off on the design now you agree that any changes or modifications made at a later date will be billed extra at $45 per hour" or whatever. then i'm sure you wouldn't be in the predicament you are in now.

    sucks indeed.

the place i work for is a science based non-profit place. Trust me, scientists are the worst group to work for. Not only do they think that they are geniuses, they think they know enough to tell you your job and everyone else's too. Not to metion, about 90% of them wouldn' t know good design if it bit them in the face.
