Really, this is disgusting. going through this thread I really have alot of sympathy toward her. and I'm really disgusted with the attutudes here.
She did something stupid, no doubt. but did she:
- know the rules of plagiarism and understand what's wrong with it?
- understand that what's on the web is not automatically public domain?
- do it to make money?Lets assume it's a yes to all three, even tho it's a definite no on the last question. Is this right? Is it morally justifed that she get mailbombed, called all sorts of names, treated like a slut, have people call her, etc.? The girl made a mistake and boy is she ever paying for it. Virtual mob justice ain't prettier than the real thing.
And this thread is dripping with misogyny. No male would ever get this kind of treatment.

kpl, I agree most of those posts, after I read them went WAY too far. It was on a personal level. Far from professional.
Having said that, her not knowing plagerism and going to UCLA doesn't make sense. Besides, ignorance is not a defense in law. :)
Still.. Cut her some slack. She learned her lesson guys.

Hm... We all went outta line. I'm just glad I mostly kept my obscenities in this thread. The email I sent to her contained only a question (why she didn't remove the rest if the rip), and a comment about her copyright text... I feel it's totally unappropriate to send her stuff like "I want to fuck your asian twat" and stuff. I don't know who did that, but I'm guessing THOSE would fit the "wifebeater" better than me.

schjetne: might be, or perhaps it was the "keep posting it to her gbook" comment which struck me as sadistic. As for aqua, I'm not thrilled about his comments either, but I'm giving him a benefit of the doubt since he was the initial victim. To be fair, schjetne you're probably not the worst offender here, just unlucky enough to be the one I remember the most before I felt too sick to keep reading.

I simply said that ripping someone's work and calling it YOUR portfolio is completely unaccepable nomatter how you try to justify it. girls like that give girls like me a bad name. last thing i need is another broad in the LA area making all the other girls look bad here. as if we dont get taken seriously enough as it is. people like her make it worse. i dont feel sorry for her one bit. hopefully she'll learn from it and never do it again.as an educated young woman she coming from a good part of orange county and probably a good family, she should have known better than to copy someones work, period.
and i wonder if she's ever turned in someone else's work like that for any of her classes. people get expelled for stuff like that. shame on her and she deserves everything thats coming to her.
if youve ever had a site ripped from you, you'd understand how pissed you'd be if someone took all your hard work. im sure you know how hard it is to put together a personal portfolio site. it's probably the hardest thing you could do.
i do not think calling that girl a whore was right. and i do think some of the name calling got outta hand. i was kidding mostly on the NT board and hopefully no one read too much into it. but i didnt say anything bad to her. okay im done.

i'd also like to add that she is not the first nor the last that gets an email from me for ripping somone off. it's the only way some newbies to the web who call themselves designers will stop stealing and start learning.
perfect example is when i caught a girl in san deigo who stole the work of tokidoki.it (simone). she acted as if no one else in the whole world has ever seen the origional work before. how arrogant. i hope if anyone finds someone stealing my work i worked hard on that someone would nip that in the bud when they see it, too.
it'll always happen and always be out there but who says we have to stand for it?
