My girlfriend brought a new 20GB iPod in Janurary, it was our baby, until about early march, where it started crashing, screen went kinda grainy and making a whirring noise from the harddrive.
After taking to the apple store, we found we had to fill out a form (over the web) for them to send a box to us, which we then package it in and send it away.
This is okay.. iPod returns, straight away we find that the iPod still has problems and is doing the same shit (yet apple say they don't repair them, they replace them)
So we take it BACK to the apple store (keep in mind we can't use the harddrive part of the iPod for work/uni)
The guy at the apple store writes a letter on behalf of us and the store, requesting a NEW iPod..
we fill out the form send it away.. that was yesterday..new iPods came out today...
I called apple to see if we could return the old iPod and get either our money back (what we paid for is) or swap it for the new 30GB (which is worth 46 dollars AUD less than what we paid for the 20GB.
NO, we can't do so.. because its from all the way back in JANURARY, what a fucking joke.
I've lost apple faith and I'm mad.. I haven't told my girlfriend yet.. she is gonna be upset.
Apple, you are bastards.

you're now stuck with the 20 gig ipod that you paid for. that sucks dude.
- mogulism0
same thing with my sony ps2.....they all suck, but we still love them....just like women.
- sauerbraten0
your situation is unfortunate.
it's also unfortunate you hate apple. i both understand where you're coming from and where they're coming from.
business.

The fact that Apple said that the store probably wouldn't (read: wouldn't) give me money back for the iPod seeing as we're now in late APRIL, but seeing as I've been waiting for thier lazy asses to send a fucking box down for us to only send it back and wait a few more weeks is really making me pissy.
Thats bad business.
- kpl0
so you expect apple to give you a brand new ipod with more functionality and capacity just because your current ipod hit the shitter one month ago?
As long as they're honoring their warranty they owe nothing to you. If they're taking their sweet time and they shouldn't, then complain about that. as for now, when I finally learn the violin I'll play a special dirge for you to show you how my heart is breaking.

I never trusted those folks of the fruits... same shit happened when i bought my iBook...
- quik0
So if I wasn't happy with the product, and was delayed by them, why can't I just return it get my money back?
Then I can see fit to do what I like with the $.
The iPod hit the shit a while ago, so its always had problems, if just that its APRIL (now) because them with thier shitty methods and policys.

Considering most stores don't accept returns 30 days after purchase, I don't know why Apple should had made a special case for you.
it sucks your ipod is messed up. Apple messed up the 1st time, but there was no delay from your story, everything happened according to proceedure and you got an ipod back.
but you want a new ipod or get your money back? that's being greedy. that ipod, if working, is not worth the amount you paid for it... it's probably worth half that by now. Apple owes you a working 20gb ipod. nothing else.
I'm sorry, but if you want real horror stories then buy Sony. At least you got to talk to paid apple reps who tried to help you out.

sony are bastards!! but i always buy sony. bastards. there stuff is great untill the day the warranty runs out, then it falls to shit
- sexypixel0
(yet apple say they don't repair them, they replace them)
if this is true then i think apple owe you a shinny new ipod
- quik0
kpl -- so... okay, they owe me a new 20GB iPod, how many times am I going to have to send back broken ones or the same one (I'm damn sure they never replaced the first one).
While they're fucking around I'm the one copping it, its used for work/uni purposes, not just listening to tunes.

That's a bummer, but every time they upgrade their hardware, does not mean you can trade in your old stuff. Apple is not Costco.
Solutions:
(1) http://www.ebay.com
(2) Enjoy the 20gb.
(3) Trade for my 5gb and complain more!
- quik0
... in which case, for the month or so that it seemed to work okay.. it must have had underlieing issues, it wouldn't have just developed problems as such..
so the product should be deemed faulty from the start and refund be offered..
or am I just being a whiney little boy?
If it returns from repair (or a new 20GB is sent) and there are problems with it.. I'll blow up someones ca... okay maybe not, but I'll be a very pissy geek.
- quik0
bob -- thats not exactly the case though.. its not like I've seen the new 30GB and gone, oohh damn apple let me trade in my 20GB for nothing and get a better one..
THEY fucked up, twice I might mention, and wasted my time (and money) while doing so.
- unknown0
of course they are..
apple is just a big money sucker..
a few years ago u coiuld say Apple was service, apple was Quality, apple was innovation..
I have left Apple about a year ago, mad like u after a brand new G4 and OSX crashing and crashing ... with the money (i sold it) i got myself a beand new Dell wtih a 22 inch screen, 1 gig ram.. and it's running perfect..
i never thought i could do my design and more on a PC.. in fact it nlows the mac away..i don't expect any service but last time my HD went down a Dell technician came with a brand new one and changed it one the spot..
An.. all these loveley game u are missing with you shniny useless G4.. what a shame really..
apple is over , really.. par of the past.. i fee lnostalgic sometimes but i can't stand spending two times more and not having any service..
- kpl0
well so far nothing happened that makes apple seem like bastards. their policy of replacing instead of repairing sounds like a good one. if the store is going to appeal to corporate, that's pretty good customer service.
In any large org something wrong happens, and someone forgets policy. some tired technician probably poked around and couldn't see a problem so they just sent it back. that happens...especially in electronics. it's what the company does in response to mistakes like this that matters. and so far it looks ok to me... you haven't really given time for them to prove themselves.
if you really need an ipod or external hd, have you tried asking the store if you can get either as a loaner? it's not like they're using the old ipod floor models now. if they don't i think it's fine to bitch about that.
- bob0
I'm sorry. I don't be mean to be harsh. It is always difficult dealing with corporations and even more difficult when the corporate rules and regs are not followed consistently.
I have truly enjoyed my iPod. I only wish I had bought a bigger one. I had it completely go dead (not start or power) once. But after reading the knowledge base, I was able to reboot it and it has worked fine ever since.
- kpl0
any amyone expecting that any electronics can be produced to be reasonably free of flaws... wake up. electronics is crap. they are all a hair from blowing up and turning into dust.
if you take a look at the industry and look at the margins, how things are produced, how often things are returned...even for the top name brands... it's ridiculous. and it's because not enough people will pay for higher quality goods... it's not the manufacturer's fault as much as it's economics.
the only thing to do is to check service reputations and warranties. I don't have much pity on folks who don't and complain about it later.
- quik0
the loner idea isn't a bad one kpl, to be honest I'd not thought about that.. but as far as the apple store and apple are convinced, they are different people.. they tell me they have no communication between each other about repairs or anything of that matter.
I made this post so that someone would hopefully steer me to apples point of view.. which is hard to think about sometimes.
I still think I should be able to get a refund though.
But anyway.. if I don't get a working iPod soon.. death to all.
