Whats the difference?

I have read many many fourms about whether you should get a mac of a pc.... but it all comes down to one question. What do you gain by having photoshop or flash on a mac over what you get on a pc? Is their even a difference?
- ********0
photoshop == no different.
Flash==Mac sucks(comparatively). Macromedia developed the Flash Player for PC and made a ghetto one for Linux & Mac systems.
Plus PCs are way cheaper...
But Macs are still cooler...
- CyBrainX0
Flash plays 30 to 40% slower on Macs. Macs are at least twice as expensive. I wish I could get an honest answer as to which was faster. It used to be Macs, but I don't know which now. Macs used to be the easier to use and maintain and deal with, but that was before OS X.
Macs have been the only thing I've consistently used for the last 11 years, but I'm having some real doubts about what to get next.

mhz for mhz macs are faster.
$ for $ pc's are faster.

I don't know where this guy is getting his information. You will ALWAYS be able to build a faster PC over a MAC any day. There has been plenty of studies on the subject:

So then if a pc is better for flash and the same for photoshop, then why even bother to move to a mac??

you get more chicks
- HIVE70
haha.... i wish
- quamb0
as not all of us are web designers and need flash to run its charms.
- HIVE70
well.... for the photoshop only users or such... then what in a mac makes it run better than on a pc?
- sexypixel0
macs are better for print and high end video and sound. But pc are catching up. PC's are better for web work in general and every time mac catch up to them, pc's take anther jump ahead.
PC for web
Mac for print and video imo
- vern0
pc's aren't really catching up... they have out run the mac.
even for print and video etc. the PC is still better ... you can get soooo much more for your money.
with macs you are paying for a nice looking box. i was once caught up in the whole "mac is better than a pc" and come to find out research is all it takes to see that there is nothign more than looks to it.
they are pretty though....
peace.

Thank you vern for your unparalleled and unmatched insights.
anyway. why say "better" at all? why is with the inferiority complex that you people have? Macs and PCs have their advantages and disadvantages. Different people prefer certain things and stick to the platform that serves their interests.
We can talk about the differences between the platforms because there are plenty. But when we get to saying one is better than the other...whatever. it's all subjective. it's meaningless. use what you like. I don't care. Just stop calling me stupid cos I like Macs better, fucking assholes.
But that's enough, I return you to your regularly scheduled mac vs pc pissing match.
- vern0
kpl.....
no words for you man. mac's are great and so are Pc's.
there you feel better now?
you are a funny one...humor looks good on ya:-)

most high end video and broadcast systems are pcs or sgi's running either irix or linux.
even industrial light and magic uses redhat linux for its design systems.
the truth is, that any discussion is moot. get what you want....and who gives a shit what people think.
if you can afford a mac, get one...if you can't then you can do the same things on both architectures - there really isn't much of a difference anymore.
for every site and benchmark that says one is better, there will be a contradicting argument with just as many 'facts'.
there really should be no discussion...just get what you want.

piiiiisssssssss

eh. me and my two-month long bout with pms. Getting sick of getting defensive tho.
* hugs vern, cops a feel.

I think they both suck.
Macs are often behind in terms of things like connectivity and versatility.
PCs are hodgepodges of technology that provide shitass user experiences, period.
I used a PC for years. I got a Mac. Liked it, now I only keep my PC for non-work tasks. They still suck, but have it where it counts IMHO

Well the bottom line is this:
If you know about computers, I mean REALLY know about computers and you need the freedom to set every single piece of your system to your liking definitely go with PC. On the other hand if you don't know shit about computers in general, go with the Mac. That's the main difference between the two. That's why Macs are so loved, because they are made for people that don't care about all those things you can do with PC and which don't wanna bother with expandability of a PC. Performance wise they are pretty much equal with PC holding a bit of advantage since it has a larger and faster hardware support. Mac do look nice and they are in because of it, but that design comes with the hefty price tag. Of course during this time PC evolved significantly in appearance as well as in the operating system field. Windows XP truly works nice and PCs are starting to look cool too (example: http://www.alienware.com/worksta…)
Cheers.

even when you forget about raw speed and how the box looks... theres still a lot of differences to consider...
used to be I would use a Mac simply for the little stuff, like it would let me call my files what I liked, it knew what files were even if someone put the wrong extension on it and I didnt have to put up with stupidly designed interfaces, etc...
things are closer now...but there are still so many OS and user interface and functionality differences... and true speed of getting your work done often has more to do with easy setup, good interfaces and workflows, than raw processing speed...

If you don't know which you prefer to use then you havn't used them both enough - If you'd used them both a considerable amount you could make up your own mind.
It's personal preference - speed got nutt'n to do with it.
You're talking about how long it takes to run a filter or play a flash movie - remember we're designers and most of our design time is spemt clicking and moving the damn mouse so speed is a minor issue, especially when we're comparing the fastest mac with the fastest pc.
