what's a dynamic flash site, and what technologies do should I learn to make dynamic flash sites instead of static ones?
what do clients really want claiming they need a dynamic flash site?
can you call a site that loads it's text from external txt files dynamic?
question might seem ridiculous to some of you I guess .. anyway

a site that loads text from external txt files, would be technically dynamic. You'd use "dynamic" text fields after all. But I think most developers would laugh at that concept of dynamic. I'm not a programmer, but the technologies that seem to work better with flash so far, are XML and php among others. Of course, you better wait till a programmer gets on the thread. I just make the pretty pictures.

you can build full cms's within the flash environment.

using XML or PHP takes a lot of backend work.
using flash that loads its content from txt files IS a form of 'dynamic site' .
the only problem being that whoever is entering the format would have to have a basic knowledge of html to format the text properly and put in links etc.
if your client is happy with having a (semi) dynamic site that they have to update from txt files then its an easy solution.

In my opinion, if your client needs a dynamic site and they want to update it themselves then an admin side is a MUST, clients will always break text files (they'll break the site with an admin system if it isn't sound, trust me!). In my experience combining xml with php and flash is the way to go. The best way we've found at my company is to use php and mysql to publish static XML pages, then use Flash to read them in, you'll eliminate the call to the database when browsing, this makes the site run faster in theory, you can also use the static xml data for other applications/ technologies...

so if it's all about changing a few words, why do you need a database?
what do you think about providing the client with a php-form that writes xml ?

you could always get a cgi script that prints variables to a text file, then use flash to read from that text file. thats how i do it and it works fine.

sounds interesting creon ... maybe you could share the cgi file?

every client is different and most actually don't know what they want, they want you to show them what they want. They don't have design skills and want you to do it all.
