Yea I'm off on one this morning for sure. Was at the gym before work and I always have too much energy when I do that!
I totally agree JagdPanther, war is fucked up... It isn't a video game, it isn't a film, it is blood and guts and families split apart. War is terror.

War is terror? I don't really agree with that statement. True war is terrible... but it seems so much worse for us in the so called 'free world' because we're used to our cushy lives, our democracy and standard of living. But what about those that don't have any of the above? Is war such a terrible thing for them if it gives them freedom.
I'm sure the liberated people of occupied Europe will argue that sometimes you have to fight, and there is a price worth paying for freedom.

Turning in to a history lesson here, but OK, might learn something.
Germany lost ww1 and had restrictions put opun it. Somehow it was able not to break, but also not to follow the rules of making weapons ect. As we all know Germany was in a mess in the 20 and 30s, everybody against each other and noone from the surrounding world did anything whn Hitler came to power, he made germany safe and was against the communist, so Britain, France and the US didnt move a finger when socialdemocrats, jews, communists, handicapped ect. was deported and killed in KZcamps within Germany
Now we see a similar person and story for Iraq.
Why haven´t we learn that the many millions af killed in ww2, could have avoided if they haven´t "supported" a dictator in his early days?

Huw, if some other country decided that the Americans would be better off without senile rednecks in Congress and a retarded cowboy megalomaniac in the White House, would you agree with their decision to overthrow and rebuild our federal government? And would you also agree if you knew they had the same track record as the US in Iran with the Shah, Afghanistan, Viet Nam, etc.?
Is it just that we are really better than the rest of the world, because we are us and we have bigger guns?
As for the French, I heard that in retaliation for Freedom Fries, they are no longer the term American for obese, hypocritical or ignorant.

Huw, I think we all want the same thing here - to end Iraqi civillian suffering and get rid of Saddam.
I also agree that it is worth fighting for, but believe that there are other ways of fighting besides dropping bombs.
As for high standards of living, Iraqis had one of the highest standards of living in the Middle east prior to sanctions imposed by the west; requests for lifting sanctions were repeatedly vetoed by the US and UK despite evidence that they were killing ordinary Iraqis and having little effect on Saddam. This debunks the moral case for war in my eyes.
Madeleine Albright said that the price of 500 000 Iraqi child deaths was "worth it". I disagree.
I do think that the threat of war has brought about positive results from Saddam, whichi is a plus for US/UK actions so far, but I cannot see how actual war is justified. Diplomacy is of the greatest importance right now.

in the words of the great Kenny Rogers...
Some times you've got to fight when you're a man!

Pulling out qutations here:
I stand in the mountain stream
So pure! The splashing sound of water against the stone.
Yet where is the person
Who with such purity can speak .- Morihei Ueshiba

Sorry I was following that discussion with earnest interest and severity and then came along ... Kenny Rogers!
Shirley shum mishtake.
This is the man who my mother decided she didnt like listening to because he compared a good looking woman to a 'greased chicken'.

Ah kenny.
Solutions are often found in compromise. Historically women have been better at this than men. Maybe it's no longer time to "be a man"...?
When you think about it, if you and I are arguing and you say "you are a liar" and I say "you're right", the arguement cannot continue. Backing down is not necessarily cowardly, it can be clever.
