It could be worse, they could be discussing war with Keunea Reeves.

yeah see that's what I mean, how does your level of popularity make you all of a sudden smart
- safe0
Pretty much,
I do think she's well informed even if she's 'out-there' on some topics.
- ********0
well everybody has their opinion and people in Hollywood, again as someone said, use their popularity to push the popular world opinion. It does seem to benefit them though being on TV and maybe practicing acting like they care, some do I am sure, but some I can't believe.

I don't get this railing against celebs (or anyone else for that matter) who speak out against the war. They are high profile and using that profile to take a moral stand. Anyone who takes a moral stand, whether I agree with it or not, gets a nod of respect from me.
Sheryl Crow said last week that she has taken alot of heat for speaking out and I think it sucks. Charley Daniels wrote an angry spewing letter to some paper angry that people in Hollywood dare speak out against our govt. (please!?!) and a BMI person in LA emailed him personally to respond to his letter and was FIRED!
What is going on???

It's called censorship. And it's an ugly thing.

i agree with exador.
"shame on your for trying to turn democracy into fascism."
YOu people are just pissed because Bush has NOONE'S support for this war for OIL.
and it's not that the people in hollywood are 'smarter' than anyone else it's that they have access to the media. Their voice will be heard. (not that it would take much to be smarter than George W. "nucular" Bush.)
I don't see FauxNews banging down YOU'RE door to get your opinion on the war.
I say GOOD FOR HER especially since she is right!
and Dennis Miller is a fool.
- Buckyball20
why didn't we take over the oil fields after the first Gulf War?

cheers Jamesh!
i just find it appalling when i see so many folks hating on celebs that have a point of view..
when they seem a bit dim witted like Keanu, everyone gets a good laugh saying 'boy, that dude aint to smart..har har'...
but low and behold...when one comes along and has an opinion, and the balls to express it, all you hear is 'shut up, no one asked what you think'and thus the whole 'freedom of expression' vibe is blown...
it turns into a hollow empty catchphrase...a lot of folks on this board have bashed us canadians, in a misguided notion that we're Anti-American...
which as i've mentioned before is a load of crap....we love america..
we're just not to crazy about your current leadership...but a funny difference here is that we applaud our celebrities for being vocal and adding their voices to issues of national concern...we almost think it's a duty for the more famous of our citizens to be involved...
now, that's not everyones opinion, and certainly not all our celebs are in the anti-war crowd...but i find it refreshing to see when one of them pipes up with their point of view...
they often get a round of applause and a standing ovation...and that goes for both sides...
i've heard some on the radio speaking up in support for bush, and then caller after caller thanking them...
and the opposite..anti-war celebs getting tons of appreciation for doing what they think is right..EVERYone has a voice..
and only those with a limited understanding of democracy would wish to silence them...PRO war or ANTI war...
speak up.

you rock exador! Thanks for the wise imput.

You cant argue with the fact that most celebrities are media whores. and if they dont have a movie out, like say... that schwank Alec Baldwin. That spouting off about politics to get your face on the tube is free publicity and probably endorsed by your agent.

nicely said Janeane!

Who The Fuck is Janeane Garofalo, and why should I care what she has to say?!?
I know who she is, but I get severely irritated that stars feel their opinions are somehow better or more poignant than a demonstration of thousands
fuck her... and that entire Hollywood "A" list coalition.
If you ask me she's got a bee in her bonnet cause she can't get any work.
- Buckyball20
who said she was "A" list?

Garofalo showed the most animosity toward President Bush, telling Kurtz in a quote checked against the tape by MRC analyst Patrick Gregory:
“Now, another thing I'd like to bring up, if I may, that is a glaring hypocrisy -- George W. Bush is vehemently pro-life, seeks to overturn Roe v. Wade, will not, seeks to ban scientific research as pertains to some stem cell research, cloning, because of the sanctity of human life. Yet at the same time he is asking us to drop bombs on Iraqi civilians. According to the United Nations, up to a million people will be killed and/or wounded in this war. So, apparently, if you are a pre-sentient mass of cells, this country will protect you and your rights to the nth degree. If you have made the mistake of becoming an Iraqi citizen, apparently we can just drop bombs on you with impunity.”oh boy.

"why didn't we take over the oil fields after the first Gulf War?"
bB
First, the UN stated that we were only to remove Saddam from Kuwait.
Second, Bush Sr didn't think he'd have to take the oil wells by force because he thought the people of Iraq would overthrow Saddam due to the hardships brought on by US sanctions. (he was wrong)
Third, in 1991 we didn't live in constant fear of terrorism and a need to retaliate for 911.
So now that Bush has his excuse (911).. he feels he has the right to attack whoever, whenever, wherever.
and now HE is wrong too.
(when trying to defend ANY of Bush's ideas or reasons to go to war you will lose the moral and logical argument. This is why so many bush supporters and war mongers bring up things like this, not really having thought it through.)
Think for yourself.
