not much to miss here, pay is awful and no good design jobs available.
- n80
ya i know that's why i'm here haha...
- n80
still, i miss things such as unbiased news and beautiful fresh produce

how I dream to go south. It's fuckin freezing here and no place to go.
Last week was -35 in Toronto
- n80
hahaha i don't ever dream of putting on anything more than a tshirt.
i must give people the weirdest looks when they talk about "winter" down here..
- piperboytoy0
nothing wrong with a bit of propaganda.
SF is so beautiful. there any openings at attik? I clean floors and washrooms too!
- n80
hehe i dunno... the peeps that clean the floors 'n washrooms now do a pretty good job!
- n80
sf is really nice... feels like a small town. best thing about it is how close it is to better stuff ie. ocean/mountains
- piperboytoy0
Yeah, I was there 2 years ago and loved it. I love the dungeonous crabs. I can eat them all day!
If you don't mind me asking, did you go to SF to look for work first or you moved after you got the offer? How is the economy there? There must be tons of unemployed designers there. right?
- n80
well as for the economy i haven't really gotten a good bearing on things here yet... like i say i've only been here for a month and it's hard for me to tell since i've got nothing to relate it to.
people tell me that (obviously) it's way way quieter now after the crash and the housing market's got good deals... but i've seen signs of things looking up. for instance, my landlord just filled his building with tenants (hasn't been full for ages).
as for moving here, i moved after i got the opportunity but have had my eye on SF for awhile...

cool, thanks for the info. Are you famliar with the music scene there? Are there still good raves?
nice talking to you!
- n80
i dunno much about the rave scene but i've heard it's good... from people in canada haha... i'm not really into the scene although i enjoy some of the music. (more into punk, folk, blues, etc and yes, that scene rocks!)
you thinkin' of makin' a move down south?

You don't get jobs from experience, portfolio or degrees.
You get it from knowing people, and hustling all the work you can yourself.
That is how these people are getting work and jobs.
By sticking their damn face in front of people and getting to know them.
Word.

I'm been thinking about moving out of Canada for a while now. Been sending my cv and promo once in a while. Not sure if companies will spend money to sponsor me.
I just sold my condo, so I might just pack my bags and go!
- n80
cinder, i definitely agree that it's hard work and making contacts getting people jobs, but at the same time you gotta have the folio to back it up. (and yes, degree is irrelevant, and experience hardly glanced at)
- n80
good news piper: you don't need a company to sponsor you! do you have a degree?
50 bucks, a degree and a job offer letter gets you a temporary (1 year, renewable) work visa.

cool, I have 2 of those. All I need is a job offer.
Actually I got an offer 2 weeks ago from a Boston company, but I'm such a dumb fuck, I turned it down because I just started a new job in TO.
thanks for the info :-)
- n80
spread the love :)
but you have to promise to come back to canada (eventually) to help build our industry so that one day people won't have to leave to find good work :)
- n80
where you workin at in tdot?
- piperboytoy0
Will do! :-)
thanks ;-p
