PC/Mac Comparison

Ok, let me just say that as much as I don't like discussing PC/Mac issues I got pissed off by one of my friends who constantly argues with me how Mac is superior than PC. Well because of this I made a clear example where for the same price of super Mac I configured a PC. See the results. There is simply no comparison. From fun to digital content creation this PC blows Mac away.
Check out the results.

yo boz. i bought that 867DP mac some months ago and i am really pissed from apple that they now updated their desktop series. however, all i can say is that my crativity and skills have nothing in common with my computer. i think if i work on a pc, my stuff would look exactly the same.
i agree with your pricing-discussion, this has always been like that.
all i can say is, that i had my last mac for 5 years and can still 'work' with it.
everyone should buy his own weapon of choice.

petzi,
I totally agree...it's the imagination that creates the piece..
I made this because PC is a superior technology now...and cheaper..

what about the OS? doesen't it make a computer superior?

Well I have to agree that from the usability point of view OSX makes a better choice for novice comp. users. But then again OSX is still very shaky even with 10.24 while XP Pro works very very stable, fast and cannot be compared with MacOS 9.2. I have here a G4 with the latest OSX and a PC with WinXP Pro.

Isn`t this like the 100th time this topic has been discussed?
Answer: some people like pc, others like Mac.
end of discussion.

Ok, we have the price, its almost the same!! I dont see any diference!! You say PC Tec. its better and cheaper?? Why because you have more GigaHertz? did you perform any test? bettween both configuration? Aren't you forget some item on that mac configuration? Like firewire port 800? Waht about software? OS X and all the iproducts that are included? and waranty? I could tell you a 1000 reasons why I would prefer the Apple conf. but more for the one I can´t remember anymore, but that's just me. Anyway I also think that everybody is free to choose the "gun" he wants!!You can also make your one car, bild up a autentic super power machine, it can even be faster than a Porsche or a Ferrari but that doesn't make it more reliable.

Flash sites run shitely on Macs

from my own exp. and from what my friends tell me, xp works very well. if osx is as solid as sp, then it really boils down to the most bang for your buck. and that's where the pc makes more sense.

cajo - they are dual 'Xeon' not your regular P4- these would piss all over any mac..
and I am on a 1 gig G4
end of story.
got to say though if they could port the osx onto the dual xeon then you could kiss bye bye to everything else. fast.. weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

xp is just as shitty as every other windows os... sure you don't reboot AS MUCH but it's still microsoft, full of security flaws and coming out with some sort of security update every month or so.... don't even get me started on viruses and the way windows inefficiently makes use of memory.

Nitpicking a little, but the Radeon 9700 AIW isn't dual head. You give up some head (heh) for the TV tuner.
Keeping the same price, you could swap it out for a standard 9700 and then buy a $90 TV tuner card from Hauppage.
I'd also take advantage of the onboard SCSI raid feature of the DP-533. Lose the ATA raid, you don't want to risk critical data in a raid-0 setup. I'd throw in 2X15k rpm 18gig scsi drives in a raid-0 as my boot/work array, and a big ATA drive for backup, etc. You could make up the cost difference by trimming the fat in a few other areas. That's the nice thing about building a PC on your own.
Manufacturer claims about warranty, reliability, etc. are pretty much FUD. Last I knew, Apple (for example), had a 1-year/90 day warranty on their top-end LCD monitors. That blows for a $2000 monitor. Unfortunately, reducing effective warranty lengths is a cost-cutting measure common to the "pc" industry, as the hardwar is pretty commoditized at this point.
In short, if you could get OSX for PC hardware, or Adobe+Macromedia+Lightwave would run on Linux, it'd be a perfect world.
At least for me :)
