who go their hands on these spots? It seems that someone actually found a use for those "random" 3d vector explosion layered photoshoped graphics.
Does anyone know who? And have you seen them? The commericials are pretty bad. Colors are cool. But it says nothing to me about satalite radio or anything. Just a bunch of played out eye candy...
Thoughts. Please react!

the project i in the hands of Crispin, Porter + Bogusky in Miami. I did the 3d and animation, and the fine folks at Heavy did the editing and supering.

I found the commercial to be quite successful. Friends of mine that have seen it were all delighted by it, and it is most certainly getting the Sirius name out there. It brings an abstract concept - satellite radio - a futuristic, hip feel using such imagery. And it shows the diversity, instead of simply marketing to rock and classical, there is also hip hop on satellite radio, along with much more.
Its a commercial that gets stuck in your head through beautiful imagery, and isnt that what you want as an unknown company? To be in the minds of all these people, to get your name out.
What would you rather the commercial say? Have some video of a car driving down a country lane as some bach rolls out the window spilling over the countryside? Have them talk about the company? Sirius, founded in bla bla bla. Yeah thatll really keep peoples attention. They arent marketing to your grandpa.
And it wasnt photoshop or vector anything, its 3D.
Sorry if that comes off a little harsh, everyone ive spoken to about it liked the commercial a lot, and could identify it by my saying "Sirius," not "that commercial with the weird, blue, moving shapes."

with all due respect to the artist(s)...
I think you could have got that message across with other things. It didn't look futuristic IMO. It just looked like an explosion of metal objects. The only thing that made sense to me was how it moved with the music.
What you said has no bearing on the commercial. The audience gap isn't "cool young hipsters" or "your grandpa". Their is lots that can be done. Trying to entice an audience is always good. Eye candy will do that.
I just think that something better could have been done. Could I do something better? Perhaps. Maybe not. I don't think the commercial says anything about futuristic, young or hip. If anything, I will give you futuristic. But young and hip. I don't know but I think MTV has a hold on the whole "young & hip" market.
Plenty of companies have done the young & hip. I have yet to see someone else do that. I am sure it has been done. I just haven't seen it.
Maybe it's because I see it done so much. That might be new to the general public. Maybe it's because it doesn't say anything to me. Regardless, IMO, I think it could have been done better.
No hard feelings. Good teams worked on it.

I liked it. I have seen two of these so far, and enjoyed both of them.
One thing to remember is that we (designers) have been exposed to this look for some time now, but the regular "Joe" on the street has had little or no interaction with this style before. And for that group of people, which I surmise to be a large audience...the commercials are new and something that they might not have seen before in any other medium.
Try to remember that working in this industry we are exposed to imagery that the rest are not ordinarly privy to seeing, and what may be old to us is quite new to them.
