Has anyone seen or used a site or service that had an exceptional help system.
I'm looking for ideas of really good usability, layout, organization, etc.
Any help is appreciated.

copy Microsoft's help... it may not be the best way to do things, but it's going to be familiar, and familiarity makes for easy use.
you shouldn't be reinventing the wheel with something like help documentation... even if it's really easy for YOU and your co-workers to figure out, it might perplex somebody else who is not so technicly savvy or computer literate.

analyzing usability of text:
"Has anyone seen or used a site or service that had an exceptional help system.

Any help is appreciated."
First you ask for an exceptional help system....while at the end you say ANY help is appreciated...
I
am
confused
ok...just picking!

I missed that one.
I was saying that any help from you, or anyone else, would be appreciated by myself.better?
It's probably more of the indexing and retrieval of documents that I'm looking for.
There's always a better way than what Microsoft has done.

Microsoft's technique isn't perfect by no means, but i think that has a lot to do with the human indexing process and not the technique itself... HTML help is a reasonably good way of organising and displaying info but english has too many sylables for its own good, so putting every possible keyword for a concept is hard. i'm looking into the same stuff at the moment and there seems to be precious little resources that i could find...

the way librarys function are great, though I guess it is more of an index/search system then a help system.
