What is a fair raise if you have been working somewhere for about a year. 10%?
No real messups. If anything, I've gone above and beyond the call of duty.

depends really on your performance and the companys profit margins.
Normally about 10% of your base

Well, my original job was just graphics. But they dumped coordination of all the display stands and some other stuff on me without a raise. So I'd say my performace was above average.
However, the company did not do that well last year. sales were down

bump

So I can ask for a 10% raise after a year without making a fool of myself? Wow! Two more months till raise time, then.
- matt250
that is the question
- MrDinky0
10% is a large jump. BUT it does depend on where you work.
if you work at a smaller shop than it is possible. if you work at a multinational corp, your VP will laugh at you.
highest raise that i have been given is 5% avg was 3%...
BUT promotion related raise is usually at 25 - 50 %.

3-4% guys. 10% would make me crap standing up
:P

rather than a raise ask for performance bonus..
set a % of your salary and ask for goals to meet (or set your own goals that are approved).
if you meet it than you get money, if you dont, well you dont..
BUT if you are going to do this, revise your employment contract, so they cant back out when you meet your goals.

wow - I guess thats what I get for having worked agencies all my life...10% was pretty standard....
- MrDinky0
i prefer promotion to a raise...
more money and more ppl to boss around..
- schjetne0
It's pretty hard for me to get a promotion, since I work in a three person company, consisting of two working owners, and me as the only employee.
- MrDinky0
yeah than 10 - 25 % is appropriate....
- sauceruney0
10% is great if you can get it
and to think I belived 5% was good these past 18 years
with the economy the way its been, I'm still working at reduced pay... haven't seen a raise in two years... I'm lucky to have a job at all, really.

I work in a similar shop
Two owners and me, the web guyI recently got a 7% raise
and also a change of bonuses from guaranteed $2000/year to project based - which, so far - has got me exactly jack squat.
>=/
But the months are still young . . .
- Vinney20
I got 14% once.

Worked without a raise for three years and then... [fanfare] got 15% as a "mark of gratitude".
Thank you boss, thank you for keeping up with inflation and putting me back where I started.
Thank you.

I asked for a raise once and got laid off...go figure. Since sales are down, you might want to wait, and really prove yourself more before asking.
Seeing out projects is part of being a designer. Did someone tell you otherwise?

AT MY PLACE THEY HAVE PUT A 5% CAP ON IT
- jevad0
5%
wow.
- iodine740
We've got a 5% cap now too.. for yearly raises. But apparently you have to be really outstanding to get the full 5%. They are trying to save $$ since the economy is still slow for us. I got 3.5% this year. Better than nothing I guess.
It used to be 10% for the first 3 years I worked here (and you always got the full 10%), and then no one got raises at the beginning of last year because of the economy.
The thing that gets my goat is that I heard on the radio that even city workers are getting 3.5% just as a cost of living increase. So essentially, going by those numbers I didn't even get a real raise.
