this is for all you people who have relocated for "real jobs." just a quick show to see what some of you asked for and/or recieved as far as moving expenses to start a new "job" on an opposite coast, as in moving from the east coast to the west coast. i'm talking overall moving expenses supplied by the new job. what would you consider reasonable and fair? just curious.

moving from the east coast of scotland to the west is quite cheap and quick......you can do it in an hour!

when i moved from belgium to london (in one day with a moving company) it cosy me almost £1000 -- which i got back from the company that hired me.
Mind you, that was 2.5 years ago.

I would have to say I had a pretty unique experience.
I had my previous rental lease bought out and paid off for me (about 4K), All moving expenses paid (about 3K), airfares paid for myself and my wife (not sure how much) and I received a car when I arrived (a 93 Camry, but hey it was free).
This was moving from Cleveland to California which I probably would have been willin to pay someone to do ;)

Michigan to Arizona cost me about $2500 to move all mine and my fiances' stuff.
One quick thing to remember, moving expenses are TAXABLE, so ask for more than you think you need.
I was allowed $2000 by the company that moved me, but only got about $1600 after taxes were taken out and had to come up with almost a grand myself.
So in short, Don't be affraid to ask for more. I'd say you'll need anywhere from 2K to 3K to move from coast to coast, depending on how much shit you have.
