Blast Radius BASHING

For a while I’ve been reading too many negative postings about the company I work for, Blast Radius. As much as I find some criticism worth taking, most of the stuff written there is, to me the reflection of personal vengeance.

I myself understand the limitations and strengths of an agency that went from 5 employees in 1998 to over 200 today. There are new responsibilities, new focuses, new challenges, new clients and new expectations. I know for a fact that most of the people complaining about the lack of visibility and freedom in here are the ones who really never showed much. Agency life is a competitive business. You have to work long hours, you have to innovate CONSTANTLY, you have to be able to sell your ideas, internally and to the client, you have to be able to have the balls to come up to the CEO and bitch about something you feel strongly about. I feel very frustrated at times... it’s a constant challenge.

It’s easy for some people to just lay back and expect the work environment to change. Or lay back and attack the agency after you got fired. What’s happen with the good old I-decide-to-leave-because-this-d... work-for-me attitude? You don’t like it, the place is too big for you, the challenges are now are different from what you want for your career? Leave – and leave as a gentleman and do not badmouthing the place.

Blast Radius was one of the only agencies that survived the crash pretty much unharmed.
The only think I can point out is that the vibe is somewhat changed. Blast is now a bigger agency, with all the amazing challenges and all the frustrating limitations you get from that. I know we are working hard to improve what we do everyday. There are some amazing professionals here. So stop the bashing – or come up with something constructive to say.

    I havent heard any bashing?

sounds like this would be better kept in an email to whoever it is you have issues with, I'm sure most people here dont care either way.

make a search on "blast" or "blastradius" and see what comes up. And I don't feel like sending this message to 30 separate poeple.

After you made the search and read everything, I would like to hear your oppinion - if you want, directly to me , since you assume most poeple don't really care about the topic anyway :

i'm not bashing BR because I know nothing about it but your post didn't make it sound very good and that was a pro BR post.

wow. strange. I only yesterday added Blast Radiius' homepage to my favourites in my 'influence' section.

as did many others with 2A, yet they all get dragged through the mud now and then. can't please everyone in this world.

    matarazzo,

I don't see any vengance, personal or otherwise, in what others have said in past posts. Blastradius has an industry reputation as a sweatshop. People have just been repeating that reputation. Now that Blastradius has earn this reputation (deserved or otherwise), it is up to them to dispel it. However, advertising no-compensation internships deosn't help Blast's position. Blast wouldn't like it if they had to do free work for some company under the guise of "getting experience" or the possibility of getting future work. They shouldn't treat others in that way, either.

in all due respect, if i remember correctly, blast did a few 'spec' jobs for some notable up and comer companies back in the day. the practice helped propel them to where they are now.

not that i wish to directly defend them but some people vying to work some brand name projects dont realize that unlike smaller agencies, seniority prevails; not everyone gets to be the creative lead.

Blast is not a sweatshop...although, it does get hot in there at times.

Sweatshop seems to be the issue here... hehehe. Well, I clearly remember the office starting to fill up at 10am and people starting to dispell at 4 and by 6 the place was dead. doesn't seem like a sweatshow to me. But logically, there are some critical moments when you will work 12 hours a day, and not-so critical moments when you'll just go home and go snowboarding if you want.

As for the gettting interns for free... I remember we only had 1 intern in my 3 years there. Guys, you're all too spoiled in this web world, making lots of money just fresh out of school. forget about that. This is not Kansas anymore... hehehe. Now this is a more established and hard to suceed at business.

Do you know what you have to do to get a job at a reputable ad agency? Well, try and then tell me. It's about 1 years or contacts, being humiliated, having to prove your worth in tests and interviews, have an AMAZING portfolio (for a student, of course) and compete with another 1000 ither intern-wanna-be guys for 1 position. Yes, it's a tough world out there.
