my god... just tried out OS9.2 again after being on X for the past 6 months. I didn't realized how much I missed it. I think I'm stayin...

good luck with that.
- pocho0
wait till yer first crash, homie.
- paulrand0
upgrading to OS9 took me out for a whole week... I live in fear of OSX
- pocho0
DAMN! THE paul rand? Shite!
I too was in fear of the Jaguar...I moved to ten a long while ago.
I have not crashed since...and I treat my sytem like shite!
Backup...optimize, and do it. I works.

what about 9.2 do u find to be superior to OSX?
- audioslave0
not quite sure exactly, accept that OS9 just flows. I feel like I move around a lot faster, get information quicker. IE5 on X crashes around 3 times everytime I use it. Who knows, I might miss X in a couple of days, but I'm flying right now. ;) Anyone else running OS9 on a dual 1ghz machine? zoooom

7 works fine on the ol' Performa.
:)

yeah, menus and crap are much zippier in 9...but work that system hard and you'll dig X. DV import is faster. Rendering is faster. Ripping MP3's are (slightly) faster.
Safari is great (still needs some tweaking though). The best thing is what I mentioned before:
No pinchee crashes.

everything was cool about Safari until I entered a flash site. what a dissapointment...
- modulate0
9 is still zippier.
but I have just converted to X fully at work, been on X since Aug at home. it is just more stable. plus the networking in a PC enviroment (@ work) is so cake.but I still manage to crash X plenty. illustrator 10, iTunes seems to be involved with that somehow.

i love os9 too. i need to start developing backend sql php shit at work so I gotta take the plunge. so much to learn in the next month. was there much of a learning curve for you Jag users?
next month is going to be hell!
i guess i can finally see what safari looks like i guess...
Also I heard X has font probs, is that true?
oh, and what the hell happened to the chooser?
- d_t_p0
i use x at work on a dual 867. i think it feels faster than 9 did, and the real payoff definitely is not having the system crash 3 or 4 times a day.

used os 9 over the summer, and I couldn't wait to get back to x.

all 9 has going for it is the windows open faster... there is actually a hack out there where you can turn off the zoom effect in X making the windows open just like 9- and boom they are at the same speed....
Moving to X is simple really- sure your scared nut by the end of the day you will a happy camper- just go out and buy a book for when you get stumped... when i reboot into 9 it feels like its 1980 ... thank god thats over.

just make sure you download the updater for Illustrator 10.
Ill 10 is by far the worst running app on 10.
the updater fixed it a bit but that still didn't stop it from crashing on me just now, causing 15 minutes of changes to go bye bye!!!! at least my whole system didn't go with it.
E.A.D. Adobe!

I just fixed all my changes only for illustrator to crash AGAIN.
WTF?!
- soda0
anyone know where the hack is to turn off the window effects???
Been running OS X for 6 months or so and it is faster, but I really don't need the dropshadows, transparent windows, zoom effects etc...

I HAD to go back to 9.2 because I crashed in Limewire one day and then when I cam back every app quit as soon as it started.
I'm on a blue G3 and it was slower than 9.2. It took me 2 or 3 weeks to get fully started on OSx the FIRST time, a little easier the second time with a clean install, but still painful. Illustrator is shit on OS X, but I think that's Adobe's fault. jaguar was a little more stable for a while, but when it screws up, it screws up BIG time.
I've been on Mac for 10 years and Jaguar had me seriously considering Switch™-ing to Windows XP/Dell.

I run X at home and 9 in work. I really like X and use it but its graphically too fussy and cheesy for my liking. I've used whatever hacks I can just to simplify it all. Almost feels like there needs to be a pro version for people that use it all day - bevels etc get in the way. So I still find 9 is must snappier and workman like.

I'm the biggest advocate for X, but for work I have to use 9 still. It is much faster on my work machine. Also, ATM rocks. I use X with Suitcase at home, but we all know the sad reality is Suitcase blows compared to the instant gratification of font availability in ATM. Someday, when I'm a millionare, I can play like I'm Steve Jobs and buy a new machine with every upgrade. 'Till then, I'm just going to have to use 9 at work to get stuff done on time. I have to admit, it would be fun to make another invoice just to bill Apple for the time the pinwheel spins excessively. Maybe then I can afford a better machine.
Power to the People! Take down Big Brother aka Apple. By the way, has anyone noticed how much Apple now acts exactly like their enemy in the 1984 ad? :-)
