If you go to your C: drive, (on a pc) and right click... then to a search for say... *.swf. Look what comes up in your cache.
Now... is there a way a person or persons copy the swf files from a live site to their desktop even if the swf files are 'protect from import'?
Reason being... see the Switch.net post. Someone stole all the work that was done.
Is it really that easy?

There was some APP a little while back that you could download that would let you pull down an swf and all the embed files within it - forget the name

There's a .swf decompiler out there somewhere your movies will never been safe.

If you have the right tools you can totally take apart any flash file to it's component parts. Plus there is not much you can do about it!

Of course the swf files get cached! They get cached just like jpgs, gifs, html, everything.
Also, because they're cached you go to your temp internet files and copy from there, surely everyone knows this???
All that 'protect from import ' does is stop people open the swfs in flash.
If you want to decompile an swf and get at the code etc, get Actionscript Viewer.

I once saw this page where the code (html) was encrypted in some way, making impossible to get the swf's source.... hmmm.

I can't view the NT source for instance... how did they do that anyway?
- unfittoprint0
u can't?
- motivdesign0
What do you mean you can't view the source for this site?
Works fine over here.

My 12 year old cousin figured out how to stral an SWF from a site and upload it to his site. It's as comon as people stealing JPGs or photos and using them on their site.
There's several programs that allow you to remove the protection from SWF files.

As you know, when you open an SWF, you just get a flat timeline. People can steal your graphics but if you have many embedded movieclips, etc. you're pretty safe from people getting to your scripts

People: use a blank swf file as your main file. with only one line of code.
_root.loadMovie("mainmovie.swf", 1)
Even better: call a javascript with an encripted text withthe source of your mainmovie. Someone that downloads your index's swf file will only see a blank page.

is there a mac equivalent of actionscript viewer?
- kinetic0
i cant view the source in the pbs either. just wont happen
sothink swf decompiler breaks apart swfs so you can view the code, but...there is a line of code you can insert into the first frame of your movie that will cause the decompiler to crash.
i remember reading something of it at ultrashock

wow, i'd never noticed that before, i couldn't view the source here. i've had a look at the code and can't see any script that's preventing it. can someone explain it?
if you want to have a look at the code and can't view it:
for the main frameset, just telnet www.newstoday.com on port 80 and type "get /" after you've connected.
for the iframes, right click and copy the location of the frame then view the page directly and view source works again.
