Advice: Jetta or Honda?

I notice the euros like their euro cars. Here in the US objectively we can look at our cars, the euros and asian cars. Its Honda all the way. They've come into their own. Sorry, but any company that can dominate like they do into other products and even have a sick ass humanoid robot in the line, besides generators and lawn mowers, is a big deal. Yeah, VW, Seat, Audi might share some corporate ties and even parts bins, but so what. Hondas are built to last longer than any euro I've seen and driven. Those cars even lend themselves to the aftermarket pretty well too. Jettas ARE nice, though. But I associate Jettas with Blond, office secretaries, that rollerblade for some reason. Hondas are more ambiguous and basic is seems, like a clean san serifed type face.

hondas have a better resale value.

i know how to solve your dilema (sp?) anyways...
like how you used to take two eggs and smash them together and the winnner was the one that cracked the others shell... well... take a vw and a honda at the dealership and smash them together. whichever has the least amount of damage wins. buy it and drive with comfort knowing how sturdy of a car you have.

volkswagons are great .... they handle and preform great.... though at about 100k they start to need some attention, so be ready to whip out those c-notes. where as a honda will go till 200k with only regular tune ups and oil changes. i have a 98 gti with 110k , i love the car though it is getting a little annoying putting money into it, every month.

What Jetta is it? If it has the V6 or the 1.8 turbo in it, then yeah, its a better car engine wise. Otherwise, if it has the 2.0 in it, get the Accord hands down. The 2.0 is slow and old, it has been around since 1993. The Accord will be quicker and will have better handling any Jetta.

Yeah, when the car gets old there's more maintenance. But screw that. I'm about to drop an Integra motor into my crx. The power to weight ratio will be ridiculous, even without a turbo. With one, it's close to a 9 second car. Not bad for what is percieved to be an economy brand name auto. Gotta love Hondas.

I have had my '95 Accord with now 92k miles since '97, never a single problem. Accords are bigger then Jettas and are matched to the Passat where Civics are matched with the Jetta. Thus, going with the Jetta means you are paying more for less.

Asking people here which one is best will ultimately get you nowhere...
Since 1999, the VW and Honda have had almost identical resale value (both are in like the top-3).
What it really comes down to is how much you like either when YOU drive it. Test drive them. Ask to take a longer test drive than usual. Take it on backroads as well as highway speed. Don't be timid - drive it like you would if you owned it. One might rattle a bit at highway speeds for all you know...
Either car will be great for you - but it's ultimately a choice you need to make - and you really need to drive both of them to make a truely informed decision.
Another option to consider is buying a new car. Do you really need the size of the Accord? The Civic isn't much smaller and you can get them new for like 15K. Same for the VW.

I would agree with A02 on this one- Hondas and VWs are both pimped out by the youngins, as well as driven by respected moms worldwide. They both have good and bad years like wines do, and it's mostly about preference.
VW haters can eat a dick, I used to drive a deisel jetta with over 300k miles on it. Moved on to a Golf thats got 120k and no major repairs yet.

fuck em' both. Buy a Toyota - far superior engineering, IMO. More efficient HP/Liter ratios, gas mileage, etc...plus, everyone and their stepmom has a VW/Honda...

He's right. Toyota's going to own the world in 10 years. They'll have LOTR style battles against Microsoft, complete with seige towers and crazy trolls.

in the europe do you say gas "mileage"? or is it gas "kilometerage"? "meterage"? "meteorage"?
is it lunch time yet?

I had a 2000 Golf. NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS!! Especially with the electricity. lights blowing out every week. Air bag lights coming on etc... I got rid of it and now drive an 87 Honda Accord! 250k on it!!! Runs like a beauty! I think in the long run Hondas definitely kill any other car out there!!

whats even funnier is that one of my girlfriends lives there...
... and yes she drives a jetta.
whats even funnier is that the people there actually act like that.

oh, did you do the smash up thing yet like you do with the eggs to see which one is better? i would personally do that if i were you. i'm pretty sure my trixie did that with her vw jetta when she bought it.

hahhahaha...I'll try to do that Kona...:)
I think that I might go with Honda Accord EX. Still struggling, but I'm getting closer.
