Well said SP. Now I can proudly design well into my 60's and 70's without feeling too old.

i mean, i don't want to be an asshole, and i see hundreds of damn good and talented designers on nt - whom are all probably young.
and i'm young myself...
i just think people worry and bitch about others way too much.
if you spent that time worring and bitching about your own work, think of the possibilities.
think of how hard you would push yourself and how good your work would become.
sometimes, i think that maybe the web killed design.
it's good for what i do, programming and development, but it's still not a 'design' medium yet - not like print and architecture/industrial design/etc is.
and i just think maybe the problem is maturation [not so much physical age but your level of maturity].
that's all.

Do you stop designing because you get old or not get paid?
My grandmother designs cookie patterns for my lactose free milk.
Some of you are wak ass wannabes, do my grandmother a favor start raking leaves and free up some design jobs for my ex-girlfriends blind niece in-law.
oh sorry i didnt mean that i'm just a bitter career less poser.so sorry sorry sorrry

Do Creative Directors count? If so, I worked for someone in his 50s and another one nearly 50.
I also am as old as the caves. I will be 40 next month. I'm the oldest person in my company. I think a lot of people filtered out of the business when Macs came around. Then, the web knocked a few people out.
I don't feel the least bit burnt. I live and breathe it. I'm looking forward to Flash 10 and Flash 100. Keep it coming. I hope I never get totally hands off.

the best ones live forever don't they?
I was up at Arnold Communications once. It was nice, all the creatives there were in their mid-30's, had their own offices with iMacs...then I'm walking out and practically sitting in the hallway was this old dude, he must have been atleast 70 yrs old, sitting there, hand drawing every one of his ads.

being a designer is a state of mind, a talent, not a career...

Get out the game as soon as you can, yo. This shit leads nowhere - YOU"LL NEVER BE RICH doin this! Pretty soon gradeschool kids will be out-Flashing everybody, then what? I'm 30, that's already too long. My advice? Get into a field where you work less, and make MORE money. Design is a hack, black!
