i am hoping that some of you may be kind enough to help me out with a problem i've been having with flash. whenever i create a movie clip, the right side seems to always be cut off buy a pixel or two when i place it into my scene. does anyone else have this problem and/or know how to fix it? thanks

U use bitmaps?
Flash kinda steals rows of pixels of bitmaps.
Flash still sux at bitmaps.

yes, im using bitmaps, is there a way to use anything else?

do a search in macromedia tech support on pixel shifting in bitmaps, they have a tech note on the subject.
quick tip: put the mc alpha at 99%. it'll slow down the movie but it'll get rid of the shifting.

set the opacity of your bitmaps to 99%

download the player update, it fixes that problem.

i would recommend to use png“s in addition to the things mentioned above

best solution would be try the plugin update.
If that doesn't work, take the bitmap and break it, then change the width or height by a fraction of a pixel. That should fix the problem. I've had almost complete success with that trick.
If that doesn't work, try the alpha thing. or the png thing, but pngs are bigger and much slower.

PNG is a wonderful thing

Here is the deal.
Only use PNGs
Always align any PNGs or bitmaps to a corner in your symbol. DO NOT EVER align it in the center of the symbol.
Always go into the library and uncheck the smoothing option.
Finally I always expand any images with a transparent outline by 2 pixels on all sides becuase the registration point (that dot that cross you see inside the symbol) has a tendency to warp whatever part of the image it is over. Therefor..if I have a 2 pixel buffer around the image. The registration point isn't directly over any pixels.
With those tips I haven't had a pixel shift in any of my projects not even in development stages in over 2 years.

Downloading the update for your plugin is all well and good - for YOU.... but what about other viewers? Do as I, and Pixelranger do - at least until flashplayer 7 is realised where I assume and hope upon hope that it's fixed once and for all ;)

Well. While most of the solutions that macromedia recommends on his forums works, there are some cases in which it's impossible to avoid that shifting effect.
My recommendation, after dealing with the problem for a long long time on a personal project, is if you plan to abuse bitmaps on flash (specially working with juxtapositions of them) the best choice is to do the project in director. Director has a way better control over bitmaps.
