A learning experience pitching as a company for like $50K, hmmmmmmmm
:)

listen, it is what some people call a "break". This may be the only one I get so I need to capatilize on it while I can...you never know, this could be the start of something HUGE or nothing at all!
Not everyone starts off knowing it all! That is why it is a learning experience... have to start somewhere.

Student: So is there money involved in this?
Counselor: Oh yes, when you graduate from our school your salary will depend on you, $50K contracts are posible!
Student: woa! So what about if I don't know some small details?
Counselor: They will understand that is part of your learning expereince!
Student: cool!

i didnt say I dont know anything... i just never had someone teach me proposals and pitches...just kind of learned the process myself thorugh freelancing and ealing with clients. Most of the work I do is print...not web, I usually get those gigs through people...
and they dont teach it to you eithet in school...so that coversation wouldnt have happened. It was funy though.

Student: Why I can't find a job yet?
Counselor: Well you don't do web work son!
Student: But I only studied printing, you had it in the course outline!
Counselor: Errr, Typo!
Student: So you're trying to tell me I paid all this money to learn printing only? What if I want to do some web work?
Counselor: Just pitch yourself as a big company, your learning experience will save you!
Student: Woa! Cool
Counselor: Don't listen to the guys at NT, they're evil
Student: ah, ok

Ok how about some constructive ideas:
In your proposal you may try to focus on services that you can offer that others can't. I would assume that when your bidding against other designers the more things that are unique to your proposal... the better.

Yeah, put down also that you're a quick learner!

As for getting figures from other companies you might be hard pressed to find that out.
I know where I work that's some pretty confidential shit and the last thing my employer would do is give that to another designer.... your best resource would probably be a college/university business program... they might offer up some samples.

thanks tjk - comments like this are what I am looking for...ideas, etc...

hey macasoFL, whats your deal? why you sweating me so bad? is this really how you spend your nights?
have you never caught a break? tried to make something out of nothing? no...thats right, you know it all and make a ton of $$, so in your spare time you write cartoon skits...sweet!

Finally! I'm making sure you don't break on tears on the interview dude, that's all!
Giving you some pressure to see if you're prepared!
You have to see how japanese train their business men! Awesome.
Just be professional, get some of these dudes overhere to get your back, you know to fill in the gaps! If you going as a company, make sure you have some names to mention, that'll make your company big, just make sure to split whatever!
:)

If you are going to pitch as a company I would remove all refernces to yourself as an individual... and all the parts where you mention that your looking for a full-time job or freelance work.

on your website that is

By the way, I'm not a designer, I'm just a person watching from the crowd!

macasoFL:
It looks like slaz will do fine... he's been defending himself through almost 60 posts of your crap :)

Yeah Yeah, get rid of the site dude, with the economy the way it is, you can offer the job in exchange of people to work with!

honestly I am not as nervous about breaking down infront of them as I am more personally dont want to be underprepared, thats all. you said small details and that is exactly what it is...but even the best of the best dont know all the details, especially the small ones and some do! I want to be the one who does.
