There's only one thing to remember.
When a company is paying an agency 100k for a site they are not only spending on the design / development. They are paying consulting fees, project management fees, market research fees etc...
You then have to consider how much of that you are willing to offer and whether you have enough hours in the time alloted to offer those types of additional services.
Now I'm definately not saying to undersell yourself, but you should consider all the different people that would be working on a 100k project in an agency and go from there.
But if you think you can get them to bite on a hundred grand and your confident you'll give them an end-product that they feel justifies 100 thousand dollars then go for it.

ok peoples...i understand all these points and do see the difference from going from a "bigtime" agency to going to "ME".
Very nice points guys...much appreciated
I will definately pitch as a company, not as just me. And I like the bios/credentials/etc comment to include it in the proposal.
Does anyone have a sample proposal? Or something similar?
As far as all the elements included, project management, design, maintenance, etc...I get them all and feel confident in handling them all.
What does market research contain? Comparisons between competitors and industry titans?
Don't think the job would be $100k from me, as much as I would love for it to be...and I agree they might frown upon giving $100k to someone who is smaller than to a big agency...
I really dont thinkthis job is as big as it may seem...their site now is sooo basic and blah. I know they are looking for spice too, but i dont see admin and databse work really, but I may be wrong. I am working on getting as much info as possible so when I do...I will have a better idea of what to expect.
I am thinking they figure they got some dough...went to all the biggest agencies and got the most expensive quotes from people taking them as suckers. Suckers with $$ though...
Again thanks all...I am not nervous...YET!

nice points vincent... step by step methodology...nice
should I actually give pricing too though? I obviously have never done a project as big as this $$ wise...but never discuss $$ of other projects with clients, small or big. I can explain hours and rates and maybe hour timeframes but dont feel confortabel actually saying dollar amounts...is that bad?
breakdown of pricing is key too...well put points man, thx
- SLAZ0
are there any resource sites with pricing of other companies sites?? I mean I can research lawfirm sites, but how would I get $$ amounts on costs and production? Is it ok to contact the companies who did those sites and ask time amounts and $$ spent on the sites?? DO you think companies would respond to me?

"I will definetly pitch as a company"
"Does anyone have a sample proposal? Or something similar? "
Have you seen the movie clueless? Sorry I'm somewhat dramatic tonight.
:)

eno, stay in touch, na meen

The best thing to do is to email me the companies name so I can check it out then let you know :)

"I will definetly pitch as a company"
- meant when speaking always speak as we and the company, not as I and me...also have another person who is going to work on this project with me, maybe 2 depending on the amount of content and work it may need
"Does anyone have a sample proposal? Or something similar? "
- just seeing what other people may have done in as their way to get some bigger projects...mostly the text part. Kind of like looking at all different resumes, someone may have a better or more creative idea for text and readability than I may..
Clueless was a good flick. Alicia is one hot babe.

i have worked on websites but never wrote a large "formal" proposal or one for a pricey project like this for a web project.
I have done a ton for print projects...but not sure if it can really follow the same format being their are a ton of different variable in each project.
Does that make better sense? This is a learning experience as well for me...

i say we all become movie stars and quit this design/programmer sh*t!
I prefer millions rather than 100k's!
